I used to look up to Arnold

I used to look up to Arnold as a role model in the body building world.

But ever since he made his way into the political world it's as if his entire BB career (steroid use) is swept under the rug. I can understand taking a stance against illegal performance enhancing drugs as the governor of California. But his almost complete denial of his past and his stance against these drugs now "to the general public" is such a contradiction to his former life.

Not to mention he sponsors one of the world's largest bodybuilding show's "Arnold Classic", among which EVERY competitor is juiced out his mind and some of the winners have even had criminal charges pressed against for use/distribution of anabolics.

I get that he needs to show the public he upholds the law, and protects the children from steroids... but I wish he would just stop being so two-faced about all this. If you do something, regardless of the public's opinion I feel you should own up to it.

I understand that... but Arnold wouldn't be where he is today if it hadn't been for his extensive juice experience. He just wouldn't ... And to me, turning your back on your past (which made you who you are today) is something I can't respect.

just my opinion though. I know life is full of gray areas and now he has to placate the wants of the public.

That wouldn't make him a good politician

This would imply that he is a good politician. Granted the legislature has the main say but he has done jack squat for California. They got rid of Grey Davis because he was worthless and Arnold ran a "hope and change" campaign tp turn California around. Funny how it has change for the worst, not to get better. They need to get rid of the legislature that has bankrupted the state just like what needs to happen with Congress.

Seems quite an ironic and hypocritical stance for someone who wishes his identity be concealed in order to undertake and openly disclose to the public the use and administration of what could be considered questionable supplementation with the desire to conceal his own true identity from those in the know.

I don't profess to be a public figure, or take a stance on drug testing in sports, I also don't sponsor a competition with convicted criminals. I'm just a public citizen who wants to see a person who is suppose to be a staple of integrity to acknowledge his own past. If someone in my life were to ask me if I have used or will use anabolic steroids I would gladly tell them the truth, I hope they don't.. but I'd still tell them.

When he took that public office his personal choices became something for everyone to judge. Like it or not. But a governor of a state should have the highest level of honor, and integrity that a person can have.

I discuss compounds that I wish to use, but that doesn't mean I endorse their use, or want others to join me in my actions. Call me a hypocrite but I'm not running for office, or having all my photos taken down from Gold's gyms across the state because I don't want my image related to bodybuilding during elections..... If asked, I would admit to my actions. Not that Arnold won't admit his use, but I've read plenty of his statements and writings in books, and other publishing's about his "New" stance on performance enhancing drugs and he sounds more like someone preaching the dangers of juice and how it's going to kill us all.

Maybe that is past that Arnold doesn't want to be known for but wants to be known for as the governor of California. Admitting his past now maybe difficult for Arnold to do so but hey that is the world of politics.

I understand he's a governor now.. I should have said more specifically that I mean his stance on drug testing and anabolics etc... It's like Winona Ryder doing a PSA and writing a book about the dangers of shop lifting.

I would understand if he chose to be silent on the subject, but to go the way he has is what I don't agree with. Then again this thread is just about opinions, and everyone here is entitled to their own. I may be completely wrong here.

He's doing what he's gotta do to win....like he always has.
You nailed it. Some wanted to "look up to him" as a "role model" when he did whatever it took (used copious amounts of steroids) to win and that was OK. Those same now see him do whatver it takes (act politcally correct and distance himself from contraversial matter and endorse matter that the public desire from a publicly elected official) to win and now it's not OK.

"Role" models are playing a role - they are not real. Nor are they for "grown-ups".
