I lift weights because ...

The Major reasons I lift are:

coming up not having good school cloths getting laugh at and pick at so i got tired of it so i started lifting weights and the rest is history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I workout so I don't look like the other 50+ yr old people that I work with and encounter outside the gym.

I love the endorphin release being the stimulation junkie that I am. If I quit lifting, I will no doubt start drinking again too.

I didnt vote because I dont know the exact reason why I lift. I train because I enjoy it. I compete cause I want to push my self to be the best. I wont stop becuase it is now part of me. I have grown vain, and want women to notice me. Plus I have to do something with all my time. MArk

When I first started lifting it was strictly to impress girls, but that is pretty standard fare for a 15-16 year old guy.

Now that I am an old married man with children I primarily lift weights for me. I like the way I feel after a hard workout, and lifting also helps make my chronic spine pain a lot more tolerable.

I enjoy being strong, when I stopped lifting I missed strength the most by far. It is nice being able to make heavy **** move with little effort.

I also like how my kids look at me in awe when I am working out, lifting what is to them immovable masses of iron. Kids only think that their Dad is smartest, strongest, wisest, toughest man for so long before they learn that he is just human.

It is also nice to be noticed by women, even though there is no chance of anything sexual taking place.

When you take all of these things together it adds up to me just overall feeling better. Not just physically, but on all levels. It is important to remember though that we don't get our value as humans through our physiques, but there is certainly nothing wrong with feeling good about ourselves.

My short term reason for lifting is because my 25th high school reunion is this summer. My long term reasoning is that the gym has always been my refuge from all the day to day crap that goes on. I feel good when I am there. I feel good thinking about what I will do when I get there. The sense of personal accomplishment you get knowing you have pushed yourself beyond what you thought possible is a euphoric high.
I guess it is kind of like going to church. Only here you bow down before the alter of the squat rack.

Damn, I would be happy to weigh 90kgs.

But you're ripped! I err..."forgot" to mention that I'm sitting on about 18% body fat. I'm too insecure about being small to drop it though. If I cut calories, my strength decreases and being a powerlifter I cannot justify that. My priority right now is a 272.5kg (600lb) bench come March next year.

Mr MacTech, if I look as good as you do when I'm 51 I'll be a very happy man :)
