I’m just not that strong (yet)!

I think a trap a lot of us fall into though is that goals change too. today you might want a 5 minute mile time. but tomorrow you realize a 315 bench is more important. 6 months from now you realize you want to cut for vacation, lol.
I have this problem quite a bit. Sometimes I wonder if I would've just kept on bulking and not worrying about "body image" over the years, if I'd have a much more solid base to work from.
Which is why most people never achieve their goals. Anything worth doing, is worth doing RIGHT, with commitment and persistent effort. You can’t have everything at once.

I agree with this, but also would say that sometimes you just need to start doing - regardless of what the outcome will be. Sometimes even minimal or subpar effort still gets you half of the way there - vs saying this is not the optimal time, environment, weight, etc. - which may never come.

But that’s not what I said, was it? I didn’t say anything about waiting for ideal conditions.

I said you have to focus on ONE goal at a time with consistent effort.

If you lack enough consistency, or enough effort, or spread it over too many goals, none will be reached.

awesome metaphor.

When you know where you are going, you can make adjustments along the way with unfavorable winds.

Not surprised to see a dip in overhead strength. Last week was the first time pressing in maybe a month or so. Next week I’ll try to push lifts hard before we go on our last short summer vacation. Man, it’s almost the end of July already! Time just goes too fast!

Exactly. People focus on "no pain, no gain", but consistency is the real game changer. No consistency, no results

Last day of summer school is tomorrow, and next week we will be on vacation Monday-Thursday. Deload will be strange but it will work sense it’s vacation week. Following that I’m going back to 5s Pro Leaders and PR Set Anchors. FSL seemed to work for my supplemental work. Riveting stuff! lol, have a great Wednesday!

Kids have been off the last couple days, and my wife seems like she is teetering. Seems like this happened last year before I went back to school. Hoping the kids have a more normal day as I’ve started to head in to school for a bit to get some paperwork done.

Have a great Thursday!

I bet your numbers are getting closer to that 1000lb total you were aiming for

I’m getting back to what I was doing when I was getting really close. Admittedly I’ve messed around too much, and I’m honestly not trying to focus on numbers. I’m trying to just enjoy the process and stack good days, weeks and months. Hope that makes sense.

Also I should add that this morning my upper mid back felt weird and it’s somewhat hard to turn my head. I did not go for max reps on my top sets and limited it to 5. I also omitted the supplemental FSL work. May make an appointment at the chiro later.

totally get it. I'm back on 531 now myself, biggest difference is that I'm running the BBB which I think is really important for my own progress. I do OK on the days that I skip it, but the BBB is definitely contributing to my squats fantastically. I'm somewhat with you in regards to numbers. My 44th is in mid Oct so I'd like to put a couple PR's on the board for that, but I'm not peaking for a 1rm effort. Right now I'm taking joker sets a little bit higher each week and hoping that one day, while in training, I just end up snagging a PR here and there. building the base, enjoying the marathon.

I get that way sometimes after overhead pressing if I don't warm up enough, almost like I slept on it funny. usually I ignore it and it goes away after a day but when its really bad I might pop a couple ibuprofen in the morning.

Oh cool, I didn’t know you were also (nearly) 44. I’ll be 45 in April, and my plan is to keep my training max level for the two leader, and one anchor cycle which is about 11 weeks, and then try to hit some Jokers on that final 11th week which was what I did when I felt at my strongest. Wendlers YouTube show is good and he stresses a lot of just being strong, capable, fit and those are all words I can get on bird with. I also have given myself the green light to push things if/when I feel amazing.

Keep on keeeping on!
