How long on TRT to get "shut down"?

I have two questions for the TRT experts...

1. How long would you need to be on TRT gel (assume 50mg/ED) to get "shut down"... LH/FSH bottomed out?

2. Can shutdown occur even if TT/FT doesn't rise? For example, if only DHT rises, does that shut down LH/FSH?

Thanks.

I can answer the second question - Yes, if only DHT rises, your LH and FSH can be in the toilet. (Happened to me.)

Probably 2 weeks maybe a bit longer. You'll be able to feel when it happens.

When it happens, would you say using the gel still made you feel better that you were before (without HCG that is) even after you noticed you were shutdown? Or did you feel worse than before?

I started on 2ml of 25mg/ml compounded gel and felt better quite quickly. The T in the gel was adding to my existing T level at this time.

After a couple of weeks I felt a definite crash and I felt subjectively worse than when I started the treatment. I'm not sure if I felt worse because my T was absolutely lower than before treatment or just because the plunge was relatively severe. If I had had a blood test at this time I would have an answer for that but I didn't. I called my doc and she ok'd a stronger gel 2 ml of 50mg/ml. Taking the stronger gel I felt better again..

The main point is the R in TRT is Replacement. Once you get external T, your body shuts down and the only T in your body is the exogenous T. I heard that some people can be fine on the low-dose stuff, but I think that it's pretty uncommon.

In regard to the gel, you say 50mg/ml. I read an article where it stated that with gels the body absorbs only about 9-14%, would that mean on 50mg/day, the body would be getting 4.5 to 7 mgs of actual testosterone?

Yes, you only absorb a little of it. I've heard all kinds of numbers and it varies not only based upon the carrier gel but also upon the individual. Some people absorb better then anothers. To make it yet more complicated, I heard reports that some people may absorb fine for a while (months, years?), then not absorb well and have to switch to another delivery method.

Mark you are 100% correct. The body senses the increase on testosteorne in approxmatily 2 weeks and then the body response is to shut down your own levels so there for you are running on just what the t gel give you and you have to increase the dosage or add in hcg or goto shot instead.
