How effective is ZMA Supplementation?

I was reading up on ZMA and on paper it sounds great! I was wondering if I could get some testimonials (or criticisms) out of some of you who have supplemented ZMA. Thanks

ZMA is just zinc, mag, vit b6. Its just 2 minerals and a vitamin.

I don't think it is worth it IMO. There's nothing to prove they NEED to be specifically taken all at the same time. Zinc is zinc. Magnesium is magnesium, and vitamin B6 is vitamin b6.

If you supplement with each one individually you'll reap the benefits zinc, mag, and vit b6 offer.

They try to make it out like ZMA synergistically working at once unlocks some kind of anabolic code in your body which is ludacris. They are just vitamins/minerals that work in the background to your diet. nothing more nothing less.

It is a good thing you asked b/c this is another example of distorted statistics and careful/profitable marketing.

Subjectively (and possibly placebo), I find ZMA products help me sleep better than sans-ZMA, including much more vivid (albeit usually more terrifying) dreams.

I prefer Dymatize's Z-Force... ZMA on steroids! :)

wrt anabolism, I can't comment. I take way too many things to attribute anything to anything (way to go scientific method!)

yep that stuff never did anything for me. Went through 3 bottles of it before I figured that out. You get enough from yoru diet and multi.

Shakes-

I'm sorry to have to do this bro, but that Z-Force your taking has NAC as well. In fact, it has 200mg of NAC. NAC is a mild metal chelator. When your taking Zinc AND NAC at the same time I'm gonna predict that Zinc getting chelated by the NAC. Muscle-Tech made this same mistake awhile ack of adding NAC in their ZMA formula. I guess that multi milliondollar budget didn't pick up on that. I feel like I just told a kid there is no santa claus.

p.s. That Z-Force formula just says 'Zinc'. You really want Zinc Chelate or Zinc monomethio-blah-blah....those forms of zinc absorb better.

i agree with reaper on this one. unless sum1 can show me how they act as a catalsyt to one and other i see no reason to really supplement with it. take a regular mutli and see how that works for ya

The only thing I can really say about ZMA, and a few people i've spoke with at the gym, is a little better sleep which lead to greater recovery.

I would def. not base any incredible gains from it. Just somthing subtle maybe. If you want to take some time of going heavy on the supps. I might give it a try to see if it works for you

i notice an increase in sleep and recovery, cant wait until NP's ZMT comes in. i was talking to a doctor over AM one day and he basically said that even with a good diet, over 99% of bodybuilders are still mag/zinc deficient in some way. people with diets higher in zinc/mag and supplementation usually don't notice as good as results compared to those lacking it more in their diet. i think it helps but shouldn't be put on any kind of pedestal. question is do what to spend the money for it, but i think you try it at least once. i would recommend ZMT over anything else currently out too.

I don't know what you just said... but I sure do love the shiny metallic label. :hammer:

jk

Thanks for the tidbit of info. For the $9.95 pricetag, I'm not out too much.

I'm probably going to ditch ZMA altogether after this bottle. There are bigger fish in the sea to fry! :head:
