How bad is steady-state cardio in regard to losing muscle?

Specifically running. I don't ever go over 3 miles @ a time. I run between 6:45-7:45 average mile.
While I have seen drastically better results (retaining muscle/fat loss) by doing HIIT running on the treadmill, I enjoy the mental benefits of running outside. I take BCAA pre-run (currently Scivation Xtend). Your thoughts/advice greatly appreciated !

My research review, with references. :)

If you like to run then run... Improving your cardiovascular health isn't going to hurt you. Just eat and you won't lose much muscle.

Running and swimming are probably the worst for trying to keep muscle, unfortunately.

It's not going to make you whittle away or anything, just make sure to eat enough!

This is always a good thing. I've been doing various forms of HIIT and it has improved my cardio health immensely. There are things that I used to get winded with that are easier now by far since beginning HIIT.
