Homebrew question...

Okie dokie.

I'm already assuming its probably good to go, but figured I'd ask anyway just in case one of you homebrew guru's knows something I don't.

Anyway, here is the deal. I've got some homebrew TC sitting in a plastic container...its been sitting there for a year because I made it and never used it (since I haven't really been "working out").

It should still be good to go, right? Just filter into vials and voila, correct? I know typically these oil solutions have a couple year shelf life, but they're usually stored in glass. I don't think it should make a difference that its in plastic, but WTF, doesn't hurt to ask right?

Gracias all

I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure they use glass containers so they can sterilize them by autoclaving.

I don't think so. Autoclaving a sealed container is a recipe for "boom" :) Whenever I autoclave equipment the container must be about 3/4 full (if it contains liquid) and the cap must be off...although I guess they could autoclave the caps and vials separately, but that still wouldn't fix the fact that the juice would be bubbling over the sides. In additions, plastics can be autoclaved.

Yeah but I think the sinner meant that plastic would melt and that's why they use glass?? I honestly don't know, I would think it'd be alrite, but who knows, BTT for an answer...

I autoclave different types of plastics all the time. I work in an immunology lab, so I've become well acquainted with the autoclave. My best memory is not shutting the door all the way when I turned it on which led to a very steamy room :D

gotcha, i have no knowledge of autoclaving, obviously. :D I thought that it was like a big oven, pff...

Kind of is. Things are really hot when they come out. But, there are different settings for different things, and I know we autoclave plastics all the time. Things like pipette tips, plastic jars (holding pipette tips and ep tubes), and cuvettes, etc.

I think it should be fine. As long as the hormone is still in solution, I would just filter it and pin it. The tc itself should be just fine.

Plastic is a vague term, since it pertains to a wide array of potential polymers you are referring to.

Exactly why I said "various plastics" ;) We put all kinds of stuff into our autoclave. Of course I don't know the exact composition of everything we put in, but I see anything form extremely hard plastics that make up pipette tips, to plastic containers which hold epp tubes, to plastic bags which hold various utensils.
