Holidays: Drink-Don't Drive.

Hey Guys
Going through fits of anger of loss and ignorant youth. I am so excited to see some of my old buddies coming up this weekend and during the Christmas Holidays. I am sure we may tie a couple on and howl at the moon. And if any of them try to drive they may have a broken jaw. Here's why:From my Mom through email-

Needed to let you know that young Paul Trask died in a car accident last night coming off Fripp. One car, no one else. Thought with your knowing Paul Sr you would want to know.

Love you and be careful coming home, you know what I mean??

If I have to get any messages from anybodys Mother this Christmas I will be fit to be fvcking stuffed and lit the fvck on fire. Party. Chase girl(s). Take a fvcking cab. I am going home tomorrow to go cry with a BIG brother of mine. GREAT
 
Being fat, drunk and stupid is not a crime. Driving that way is. I'll bump your sentiment. Have fun, safely.
 
I can't emphasize this enough. Good post motiv8er, points for you dude.

There is nothing I hate more than showing up at a traffic accident, finding one of the drivers is intoxicated, and literally having to scrape bodies from the pavement, or remove them from the wrecked vehicles. The worst part is having to deliver the death notification to their awaiting family. Being responsible is the key here. If you're going to drink, please make sure you have a sober driver..ie: friend, taxi, family, etc. Have a plan before you begin. If you go to a party, have the host hide your keys (works for me).

It's not just the accidents, but what a person has to go through after receiving a DUI. Court, jail time, fines, attorneys fees, probation, losing your drivers license, insurance either raising your rate or dumping you, DUI school, community service. This not only affects you, but your family as well. It could also affect your job, or future employment.

I plan on having fun, and tying one on tonight and tomorrow. But, I'll make sure I'm responsible.;)

lost a couple of friends through the years to drinking and driving, so I'll bump this too. have fun, but do the right the thing, you know better than to D&D.
 
Good posts here. This is one thing I never toy with. Years ago it was because of the fear of a DUI, but now it is because I am a father and being severely injured or worse because of something preventible is not in the cards. This is probably the biggest reason why I drink once in a blue moon. I live in the sticks and cab fare is not an easy option, so I just don't drink. I sit after work and sip my water while the rest of the staff does shots and drinks beer.

Working at a bar 5 nights a week makes me weary to even be on the road after 1am. I'd say half of the people are responsible (props if this is you), 25% live a mile or less away, and the other 25% could care less about themselves or the safety of others. I drive by the gate to the base on the way home and the amount of people pulled over at and before the gate is staggering. I know for a fact the Joes get lectured about this every single end of the week formation. Most units even have vans at the duty desk to pick people up, but fools still think they are above everyone. They even put some people out of the army completely for DUI's now, and idiots still don't get it.

I too lost a friend who thought he could make the drive home. It's a shame that something this easy to avoid is such a major concern.
 
I drive semi for a living and I see way too many accidents every day, many people don't know how to drive when they sober, give 'em alcohol and we have disaster.
