Histamine/Mast cell issues?

Anyone on here have histamine/Mast cell problems?

I just had to leave my current place of work due to histamine/Mast cell issues. I was employed working on a farm with hens. I've always suffered histamine problems but I recently just found out how bad I was when I started this job. I started my job at 7am and by 8.30am I had a killer headache. Fatigue. Anxiety and nasal congestion. It was like clock work. On my days off I started to recover and feel well again. I lasted 3 months doing this. Last week I was waking up with my bed sheets covered in blood from my nose bursting open and bleeding all over me. This was my cue to quit.

I'm upset as the company we're paying a fantastic rate of pay. They also had amazing incentives. Good bonuses etc. But my partner sat with me and said. Your health is what matters most here. So I quit.

I have tried all the anti histamines over the years. From over the counter medications to prescribed medications. They all made me insanely unwell. My latest one was desloratadine. The first 2 days were incredible. Full relief. My mood was the best I had experienced for a long time. Day 3 the headaches started. Full blown migraine headaches. Even with painkillers the headaches could not be touched. I stopped the desloratadine and it took about 3 days and it was out my system and the headaches subsided.

I've looked into natural anti histamine/Mast cell stabilizers and I've tried a few now. I started with stinging nettle and I had a full blown anaphylaxis episode with it. Scary. I then tried quercitin and the anxiety was on another level. I have a slow comt gene and can't use quercitin/luteolin.

I suffer with naturally low blood pressure also and I need to be careful with some supplements. If a supplement has blood pressure lowering properties ie forskolin/berberine it tips me over too much and makes me bed bound.

I'm really at my wits end now. The UK just don't care about mast cell issues. I went to the doctors and tried 3 different doctors and all just tried to offer me fexofenadine an anti histamine that makes me very unwell also. I've explained this and all I get is a shoulder shrug.

I'm currently eating lower histamine foods. I also take dessicated kidney for the DAO. Weirdly I'm also allergic to dessicated kidney. I can manage 1 capsule ok but 2+ and within 20 minutes of swallowing the pill I get hot flushes and a runny nose. My body is just freaking out.

Anything I can try? Anyway of accessing mast cell drugs in the UK? Any other natural supplements worth exploring?

Thanks

Hi, I am sorry no one able to help by answering… from my understanding, histamine incontrollability can stem from the gut, which is in an unhappy place when that happens; usually indigestion and the intestines holding onto putrifying foods. Have you looked into glycine perhaps and the effects on gut health? Creating high amounts of cortisol can also cause histamine release from what I’ve read.

Hey. Thanks for the response.

Yes I've looked into gut health. I would almost say that histamine issues are almost entirely related to gut health. I've seen people go from eating less than 10 foods to being able to eat almost anything just by repairing their gut.

I try my best to keep my gut health in check. My diet is fibre rich and I incorporate home made kefir. I need to be careful with kefir though. It can give me horrible die off side effects.

But I do try and look after my gut. I don't use antibiotics and I try and incorporate gut strengthening foods.

I have good days and bad days with my histamine issues. I hate anti histamines. They give me horrid depression and fatigue. I use DAO prior to histamine rich meals. It helps.

Sorry for the extremely late reply. I was looking through the forum and realized that you also had a neck injury. Another thing to consider as well, causing stress to your gut. May I ask what caused the neck problem to begin with? Was it out of no where or you just found out? Sorry, maybe relevant. Maybe not relevant… but my findings, all things are correlated, especially with the gut, as any strain can also inhibit proper health of other properties of your body.

Hey no worries.

I have a herniated disc which I suspect is through weight training. It's a guess but I'm suspecting it was from adding in upright rows. Can't be certain though. It was out of nowhere. I just woke one day and it's been hell since. That was 5+ months ago and still not healed up.

Yeh the gut is definitely a big factor in overall health and even with healing/inflammation. I do try and eat as best as possible. I can't tolerate probiotics. I react so poorly to them. I do take very small amounts of home made kefir now and again and then eat plenty of prebiotics.

Do you suffer gut issues?

Thats interesting that you woke up with the pain… there’s actually a lot of people with herniated discs, undiagnosed, and have no issues. I understand it depends if a nerve is trapped, but also when a person finds out the disc was not level, after a x ray, they would have never known.

I don’t want to talk like I know anything, but I think the x ray showing in that particular area, is a pain that got worse possibly because of the gut. I don’t think fermented foods are the way to go either, as they can cause histamine release as well… you’re right about prebiotics I believe, but I see it as this; if you’re having regular daily bowel movements, I think we’re good. If not, you might want to go over your diet. Even bloating or gas build can cause headaches and back issues.

I don’t have gut issues… I hope not. But I’ve been eating in a way that I feel is attuned to my needs… or rather, my stomachs needs and wants
