Rua Re-Injures Knee, will undergo Surgery

By Thomas Gerbasi

Scheduled to make his return to the Octagon this June against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 in London, light heavyweight star Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has instead been forced to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair last October after his UFC 76 fight with Forrest Griffin.

Surgery on the injured knee will be scheduled shortly, and there is no word on when Rua will be cleared to return to the Octagon.

One of the game's top 205-pound fighters, the 26-year old Rua was looking to get back in the win column after his defeat at the hands of Griffin last year, and his bout with Liddell was just the motivation he needed to train like never before.

"I've never seen Shogun so motivated for a fight like this in years," said Rua spokesman Eduardo Alonso. "This was like a new beginning for him."

Liddell's opponent for UFC 85, which will be held at London's O2 Arena on June 7th, will be announced shortly. As for Rua, he promises to be back and better than ever as soon as possible.

"He thanks his fans for all the support," said Alonso. "It means a lot to him."

Haha, excellent!

Shogun's really been injured a lot lately. The arm break, 2 ACL tears, and think there were others.

I should KO you, then double reverse heel hook you, Basito style.

Shogun is scared after the beating he received from Forrest. I'll hit you with the triple decker pecker wrecker then rear naked clam jam you if you ever threaten me again. :numbered:

Agreed. He was scared of Forrest so he tried time and time again to jump as high as he could from a dead sprint while cutting to his right until his ACL tore. I wonder if that talented Shogun mock vid maker will produce a new one after this injury. Those are pretty damn good.

Evans will be his replacement.

Rashad Evans (Pictures) is expected to fight Chuck Liddell (Pictures) June 7 in London, England, Sherdog.com confirmed Wednesday.

The light heavyweight bout came together just one day after the UFC announced Mauricio Rua (Pictures) pulled out of the fight against Liddell (21-5) because of a ruptured ACL in his left knee.

Following losses to Quinton Jackson (Pictures) and Keith Jardine (Pictures), Liddell, 38, righted his ship with a decision win over Wanderlei Silva (Pictures) in late December.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Evans' last appearance in the Octagon saw him draw Tito Ortiz (Pictures) after three rounds. Evans is unbeaten in the UFC and sports an overall record of 11-0-1.

Evans had been rumored to fight Brazilian Thiago Silva May 24 in Las Vegas as part of the UFC 84 card.

Gay. I dont want to see Rashad's flapping ***** tits fight in another main event ever.

Yeah, Machida or Thiago Silva would have made interesting fights, but why Rashad?

I am actually excited as I finally want someone to end the Rashad Evan's myth. I really hope Lidell knocks his head off
