My mom just got diagnosed with slightly high cholesterol (208 total)
Would red yeast rice be a good option? I read up on it and your not supposed to take it on cycle because it robs your liver of (I think) Q10 enzyme. Is this safe to take year round as a middle aged woman if your not on cycle or a regular drinker? Thanks.

You need CoQ-10 with it period.

There is some other stuff she could try. Fish oil, policosanol (although some debate as to whether it works or not), niacin....

It's a little bit ridiculous to worry about total cholesterol at 208. She doesn't need to incorporate any red yeast rice or statin compound. I would just suplement fish oil and increase my fiber intake.

Read up here at the Mayo Clinic website on cholesterol. They rate and grade supplements, give diet tips, etc.
