Hey Cuffs, I know your a Cop. So I was wondering if you watch Cops. I've watched it for years, I don't like the older ones though. Tonight there is a special with 4 shows in a row starting at 8pm EST. I'm gonna start watching it now. Its there 600th episode. Been on a long time. I remember wathing the first one.

I used to watch COPS when it first came out, because it was novel to see such "reality" T.V. before it became the rage. Actually, I was younger and stupider then. And I really just liked watching other people get arrested...

I used to watch it the first few years. Now, only when there's nothing else on. I was soooo into being a cop when I first started. Now, I try to separate work from home. It's a good program to give people a taste of what cops deal with day-to-day. From the good, to the bad, and the people they deal with.

I wasn't sure how long you have been a cop, but I thought you might say something like that. I guess thats what most people are like though, when you first start a job you are all in to it and love it. Then after a few years it becomes just a "process" and you know what to expect, even in a job like yours I would guess after a while you would know what to expect depending on what the call is that you get. I have thought about becoming a cop before but to be honest there are things I probally just couldn't and would not want to deal with. Then though you always have the people that are obessed with there jobs, that come in on their days off and do overtime 30 hours a week.

Well, my reason for separating the two were for a couple of life reasons. One was for family. I'd rather spend time with my family, coach baseball, take trips, than spend it all at work, not having to worry about it. The second reason, I can be a workaholic. When I really get into it, I begin to eat, drink, and sleep work. I worry, or plan things while I sleep, and can't wait to get back to it the next day. This caused a lot of stress in my life, and ultimately my first marriage.

I've learned to juggle both homelife and work pretty well now. In fact, I don't even think about work, and rarely talk about it while home. There's just so much more to life. Also, it's getting to a point in life where if I could do something else right now, I would. I would love a 9-5 weekday job with holidays off. I would miss being in LE, but the time with the family would quickly cancel that out.

just out of curiousity cuffs...how many hours does the average cop work weekly? how many hour to you work weekly?

Right now it varies. It usually is at 40-50 hours at a minimum, and up to 50-80. It all depends on what's going on, what you're assigned to, court appearances, training, etc. Right now, I'm averaging around 60 hours a week, plus my drive time to and from, which is adding on another 15 hours.

75 hours a week? All I have to say is **** that. Any desire I ever had of becoming a cop is now killed. I was thinking about becoming one. I figured you guys worked alot of hours. I gotta hand it to you for working that many hours, its more than I could do. How do you have time to eat and lift?

It's difficult at times. Like this week, I haven't been able to lift yet. And...I was just notified I have to stay for another 6 hours tonight. Oh well, hopefully I'll be able to get in a couple by the weekend.

As for eating, I make sure to bring a bunch of food with me to last the week. My coworkers make fun of me at times, but if I don't bring it, then I'd go hungry.

they probably make fun of you cuz there jealous, most cops I see are overweight.
They say things all the time. My buddies begin talking like Arnold when I walk in, or talk in caveman talk. It's all in fun though. They eat donuts, I go for the dry wheat bagel. ;)

I always wanted to be a cop in Vegas, imagine all the neat stuff you would see.
I knew a guy who worked for LVPD and loved it. They're the original "Bad Boys".

when do you have time to post, do you have a lab top in your cop car?
I recently took on a new position. So, I'm at a desk for a portion of the day to catch up on things.

yeah, Cuffs, where are our tax dollars going anyway? Isn't there some crime being committed somewhere????

...you know I'm kidding! Cuffs is the man (literally!)...

I wish all your brethren were like you, my friend.

Thanks for the words Milwood.
