Hernia

Hey, there is nothing wrong with getting someone to tie your shoes. Especially if its an extremely hot women who thinks you're 'cute' "Awwwww..." :D

Steve, you still plan on emailing me back with suggestions?

You know, I am so glad you have a healthy sense of humor. As soon as I saw you were the next poster I thought to myself.....self: :hammer: --->B5150<--- :hammer:

You know I love you :)

Whats up guys I went to the doc yesterday to get a physical, everything was going great and then the doc told me to cough he said I didn't have a hernia yet but the walls were thining out and I would prob. have one soon If I don't lay off the heavy weights. I been thinking back what could I have done to cause this and one things comes to mind couple months ago me and the guys were messing around at work see who could pickup the ass end of a car, of course I had to try and show everyone up picked it up and moved it over the only prob was I felt a pop in my abdomin followed by a burning sinsation I think this might have done it not sure.
Anyway my question is what can I get away with to put this off longer? Doc said no more squats and I take it deads are out he said also watch how I work abs. I doing a version of HIT right now reps running 8 to 12 and have backed off the weight some to really concintrate on form I figured I prob. be ok doing this, also I was thinking about using my belt through the whole workout but upon futher reading not so sure about it. What do you guys think?

Well hernias are mostly genetic. And if you come down with bronchitis or a sneezing spell look out because you have a grea chance of worsening it then. You can let an actual hernia go for up to 6 months although not recommended. Go to a doc more specialized in the area and get his opinion. Mine would be to get it fixed asap. This can put a serious damper on gains and give you an excuse not to do two of the best mass building exrecises out there squats and deads.

I plan on seeing a specialist next month when the new insurance plan kicks in (companys changing providers) I went back in the gym today and it sucked I had this on my mind the whole time I feel like I wasted my time today. I battling the desicion to go back balls to the wall or just quit for now, I can't do this take it easy crap it drove me nuts today. Oh and thanks for responding I spent half the weekend searching different forums and this was the best tread I came across on what to expect and recovery time, every one else seemed to take many months off and that was my biggest fear.

Just keep goin and don't try any PR's on squatting or deadlifting. If it is intense pain you better get to the doc. Mine just kept getting bigger but didn't bother me that much. The smaller one believe it or not hurt more during my WO's. But it just throbbed nothing bad. People go for years with hernias but when they pop through initially it can be poetentially dangerous if it strangulates and kills the intestine. You can visually see the skin change color. If you have to wait a month and the doc you already went to did not say GET IT FIXED NOW than you should be ok to wait. Time out of gym for me was two whole days but strength took about 1.5 maybe two weeks. Just get your self a good doc bro and you should not be out of the gym for more than a week or two at most. Let me know how it works out. I am usually not here on sat or sun but Ill be watching in case you have more ?'s.

I suffered a douple years ago. It sucks but your better off in the long run. Keeps you on your ass for awhile, but the vicodin is great!!!

Thanks guys, I don't have any problems out of it didn't know anything was wrong nothings sticking out when I coughed you can feel something pressing out. Doc said I was ok to continue just watch it, said I didn't need to do any thing about it right now just said it may become a future problem basicly he just kinda scared me I'm gonna continue on and avoid PR's and cross that bridge when the time comes.

Its cool man, I thought maybe you were pissed cause I told you to go to the doc and you ended up not needing to. Thought you had to come out of pocket for some serious cash or something.

I feel bad about it because yall helped me out and you got bad reviews I'm thinking something may be wrong with the system or something In trying to fix the problem and give some good feed back (thinking I may have hit the wrong key or something) I evidently gave b5150, max-rot98, kris, unlikely toad, kd1, & sja all bad reviews. Yep this is good the newbie asking his first bit of advice getting a possitive answer and giving bad feed back by ACCIDENT, and then giving everyone else in the tread bad feed back too, by trying to fix the situation. Anyone have a rock I can hide under:run: again I appologize and hope it can get cleared up.

Bitch :numbered: :numbered: :numbered: :numbered:

Just kidding....I'll wear the negative rep as a badge of honor whilst guzzling my Mad Dog 20/20 (bring back memories B??)

Glad its cool guys, some people are really into their reps, didn't want to tick anyone off being a newbie and all. I'll be sure to watch out for any stange vids

If this were BB.COM it would be a differant story. Over there Rep point = knowledge? Enjoy your stay.:woohoo:

I finally got around to getting a referral from my physician for a hernia repair consultation (while I was in for treatment of my mental/psychotic conditions). Based on her initial diagnosis, it is not an umbilical hernia as I first assumed, but rather a Invalid Link Removed. Mine is just slightly above the umbilical and about a walnut size at this point. I have an appointment with a surgeon this morning to get a consultation. It appears that this is a very simple repair. I'll see what he says about it in a couple hours.

Well it turns out I have both umbilical and epigastric hernias. Am waiting to find out the date surgery is being scheduled. In and out, outpatient with minimal post surgical recovery time and some 4 weeks or so off from heavy lifting.

Wow 4 weeks is a while, but in any case I hope for a quick recovery for you B. It is definately a painful experience but for me the pain at least the intense pain died down very quickly. Hopefully your woman is a good cook. If so it won't seem so bad.

Tid bit of advice. Buy some kind of laxative to use with the painkillers. Nothing too intense but when you finally go without having a laxatives help you'll be screamin. Learned from that mistake my first time and second surgery was alot easier.

Well the four weeks is my window. I'm old and want to be sure I am healed before I rip a gut.;)

My surgery is scheduled for this coming Wednesday the 24th.

I'm only playing. But I am a far cry from 23 :)

Thanks. I will fill you in on surgery and recovery.

Durn B5150 hope you have a speedy recovery.
I don't know if the doc was trying to scare me or what. After talking with yall I went back to lifting like I always have. In March I started on a basic power lifting routine, just hired an powerlifter as an online PT and doing well pulling PR's everyday with no change in my situation. I check it from time to make sure what the doc pointed out isn't getting any worse. I just couldn't workout going easy I'm a balls to the wall type person. If it happens it happens I'll deal with it then.

Procedure was done today at 2:15PM PCT. I'm home and just loaded up on some food. I had not eaten since last not for anesthesia purposes. All went well. I am walking around but there is a considerable amount of pain if I am not careful to watch my movement.

Another pain pill, A/C down a click or two, king sized pillow top bed, remote control and the Sox/Yanks on ESPN. This is turning into a swell night.

Well anyway, I said I'd give an update. There you have it.

think its a matter of perspective and if you've avoided injury for tha most part of your life, I'd consider this a drop in tha bucket... but that's just me

God I hate coming out of anesthesia.

It feels like I've been floored by Terry Tate.

It's so annoying having them ask you questions when you can barely muster enough strength to open your eyes.

Suck it up you SOB...

:saw:

Fwiw, surgery is scheduled for December 14th.

Come on TUT, I was old when I got my hernia surgery and that was nearly a year and a half ago.

Mr. Heat Miser is getting ready to retire for the season. B5150 may follow him.

Fill me in on whats going on with you.

Well so long as b5150 does not retire from life, that be fine by me. :)

Nothing all that new going on here other than my surgery on Friday... always puts things into perspective. That was pretty much an all day event. I had to be there at 10AM and didn't go under until 12, then I didn't return home until 8. I was in tha hospital about 5 hours longer than expected. Despite my best efforts to explain to them specific considerations post-op, I don't think they quite understood. It was my own spasticity that got me. My left side went nuts with muscle contractions while in tha recovery room, and everytime this would occur my lower abdominals would clench... needless to say, it was rather trying. Finally around 7 I told myself to drown everything else out and focus on getting up so I could get home, and that's exactly what I did.

Each day has gotten better, but walking is still currently a pain. It's one tha same side as I bare most my weight. I find it hard to stand completely straight, so I'm hunched over more as I walk. This is mainly due to tha pulling/burning sensation. I had also thought perhaps part of this is due to dermabond's use over my incision. For those that are curious, they stiched tha inside and used dermabond as an outside dressing. Overall pain is probably down 40-50%. I just have to take things one day at a time. I may be bold and attempt to go back to work tomorrow as I can spend most my time in our office.

My doctor suggested 6-8 weeks is optimal for laying off tha weights, but said no eariler than 4. I also found it surprising that he said it may take up to a full year before things are 100%... that's kinda crazy. He did put in mesh, so I guess it's understandable. My goal now is to be back on light/moderate duty starting Feb. 1st, this should allow for some recomp and muscle memory to occur by my trip to Ohio.

My plan of attack for tha next 6 weeks is to eat above maintenance next 3 weeks then taper to baseline with regular treadmill sessions at my gym (walking) for tha remainder. As far as supplementation goes I'm doubling up on my multi (2-3 weeks), adding in an additional gram of Vitamin C a day, 10 grams of standard EPA/DHA Fish Oil, 8 caps of USPLabs Cissus RX and 4 caps of USPLabs Bolic (to help recover and maintain mass).

I have a lot of little projects I want to get into during this time off as well, more on this at a later time... Toad needs food!

The only advice I can give you is to NOT rush this AT ALL. Your standing upright is strain enough. Remember that there has been a space in those muscles and now it is drawn together. Standing upright is pulling this area. The muscle is strong and will tear away from the internal stitches resulting in another 'void'. TAKE YOUR TIME!

If I were to do it again I would not lift a thing for 4-5 months or more. Even then it is still too soon. I ended up trashing mine within 4 months and now have a bulge above the repair area. Your doctor is not kidding that it could take up to a year to recover 100%.

Seriously, do not rush it.

Merry Christmas!

i had surgery five weeks ago to repair a small umbilical hernia and i was back to working out 100 percent after 10 days. Well Saturday i was doing abs and that nite i noticed some pain around the area of the surgery. I thought it to be just scar tissue. The next day i did back and my stomach was not feeling right. The pain had moved away from the surgery and to an area directly between my belly button and the site of an inguinal hernia. The area is tender to the touch and i dunno if theres a lump, i really cant feel anything. I didn't think it was possible to get a hernia in that area but i dunno. It hurts when i poop and sometimes when i pee. I hope its just a muscle strain from doing abs, but im seeing the doc tonite. I pray its just a pull, i have had to many problems in the last 8 months (shattered jaw, 3 concussions, broken thumb, hernia pulled hammy and hip flexor)Has anyone ever had a hernia between there belly button and the site of an iguinal hernia?
