Help with calories..

G'day all..

Just looking for some help before I start my cutting diet (still a few months away).
Currently I'm on a PH cycle and taking in approx 1000 calories over my maintenance level and will continue to do so until a couple of weeks after my PCT.
I've always struggled when it comes to the fat loss side and go in too hard too early.
When I decide to start, should I start just under my maintenance calories or start by cutting down on the 1000+ that I am currently on? Reducing more until I reach the -500 calories per day.
I have been told to start at 500 under maintenance but thought with the drop of 1500 calories a day, my body would burn muscle.

Any input is appreciated.
