just wondering for example what effect something like epistane has on the heart long term. epi swells muscles up and hardens them and im wondering if it does that to the heart too?

My understanding is that anabolics thin the wall of the heart, reducing effeciency and "enlarging" the heart in a sense. This reduces ejection fraction and increases the risk of heart attacks. Dilated cardiomyopathy is one potential risk of using anabolics.

All AAS use will cause left ventricular thickening. This is different than left ventricular thickening from exercise. Exercise such as running induces an outward growth of the heart; keeping the chamber size the same. AAS use causes inward growth of the heart, which decreases left ventricular volume and there for ejection fraction similar to HfRef (heart failure reduced ejection fraction).

Less chamber size means your heart has to work harder to move blood. It also means you can end up getting a backlog of blood built up in the pulmonary veins. It also means that the muscle becomes quite inelastic, and requires more blood flow which it may not be able to get, so you could go ischemic which you’ll feel mostly after exercise but probably not at rest until it’s too late. This can lead to arrhythmias, heart failure etc.

Also, if there’s a backup of blood you can get pulmonary vein stenosis which causes all sorts of issues but ultimately leads to heart failure as well.

Please keep in mind that this process happens with repeated use over long periods of time.
A 4 week epi cycle is not going to get too far into this process. Unlikely it will even make any difference at all.

Very true though for some people with preexisting conditions it could start a domino effect as the heart gets damaged from multiple cycles, it takes more load, which causes more damage etc. that’s why people with heart issues like this almost always have hearts replaced. Very hard to dam up a river when it’s flowing.
