I don't know if anyone here is old enough to remember mothers breaking each others arms to get their daughters a cabbage patch kid many x-mas's ago? Even though there were other dolls that were exactly the same, plus cheaper, all the kids wanted the authentic cabbage patch kid mainly because the toy company created a somewhat 'false' sense of urgency by having them selling out everywhere. They did so by only releasing a few at a time. Actually worked with playstations too. Great marketing if you ask me.
