Hair Loss Prevention

I want to second the recommendation from those that have advised staying away from Dutasteride and Finasteride. In my experience, nothing works better for hair loss than oral Fin or Duta, but it comes at a huge cost...the sexual side effects are significant, and do not, for many men, go away when the medication is stopped. Search the internet for "Permanent side effects of Propecia," and you'll even find support groups for men out there who have taken 5AR inhibitors and are still suffering from side effects years later. The second most effective product I've ever used to slow hair loss is RU58841. It only costs about a dollar a day, and has no side effects. Unfortunately, it's only available from China, but I've not yet had a problem in 4 years of ordering.

Been using fin for about a year and a half now and JUST recently have I started noticing sides.

Only 22 so I'm a bit pissed. The drug has helped make my thin hair a bit thicker but at the expense of my libido and erection quality.

Should I hop off the drug and try something else? Or throw something else into the mix with the fin?

When you order the RU does it come ready to apply, also how much do you apply and how often?

I think it comes in bulk powder so you're going to have to make a topical solution yourself. I could be wrong though?

It comes in a bulk powder. I weigh it out and mix it with 5% minoxidil/generic Rogaine. I generally make a 5% solution of RU by weight, and make only enough to last 3-4 weeks at a time, keeping the rest of the powder refrigerated. I apply about 1 ml using a dropper every night to my temples and hairline. That's a good place to start, and you can always increase dosage from there if you need to...and if you can afford it (price has actually gone down recently, but at $35/gram, it's certainly not cheap).

Ession--my own personal theory is that the long term sexual side effects of 5AR inhibitors like Finasteride are likely caused by the medication doing exactly what it was originally designed to do...shrink the prostate. The more immediate side effects are due to the lack of DHT in the body...back before Viagra, et al, was available, doctors used to describe DHT pills for erectile dysfunction, and it worked well. So, if the side effects wear off after a couple of weeks as your DHT levels rise, you're probably fine. If not, well...the side effect you're experiencing may be the one effect the drug was actually designed for.

Since some of the other sites are already mentioned and linked here, can you please go through a list of good trusted sites for the 15% Minoxidil and 2% Nizoral?

I actually purchased a good order from wholesalehairproducts, but always want to keep my options open.

Also, the Minoxidil pamphlet that comes in the boxes says using the product more often or applying more than 1ml will not increase ultimate effects - so, how would tripling the concentration help? I notice Minoxidil makes me scalp flake and get dry at only 1ml a day.
Bump on the bolded directly above :)

Also... is Nizoral 2% a pink semi-thick liquid when it comes out of the shampoo bottle? THANKS!!

I've taken both.. I think I am slightly fatter since taking avodart and have found it a little bit harder to lean on.. The sex drive question is a valid one, mine has been kinda flat lately and I am debating whether to stop the avodart for a few weeks and see what happens.. I am running topical Dermacrine (as well as Fadogia) at the moment and have had absolutely NO increase in libido.. If anything it seems flat.. I had a blood test a few weeks ago and it's in the norm.

More info to come...
Same here with libido. The only thing that makes me 'rage' on the opposite sex, is Test Prop or Test in general.

I have taken Fadogia before, and although a great product with good science and tons of positive user feedback, I did a full 4 month PCT last year, and only returned to mildly below average Testosterone output/levels.

Voice heard man. Trust me, when PP was making their claims about Toco-8 and hairloss I was the first to raise my hand and call BS. Search for it, the thread is around here somewhere.

I'm not saying that I can prove that Toco-8 has helped me with my MPB, only that with it in my supplement regimen my hair loss is less of an issue. I know it is purely anecdotal, but I'll convey my opinions to everyone here. Research Toco-8, if you think it would make a good supplement for you by all means try it. You may or may not notice an improvement in your MPB symptoms. I have, and I'm not saying its due solely to Toco-8. Only that I am taking it regularly, and my hair looks better than it did before.

I take any product claim in this thread pretty seriously. Check who the OP is. :D

Thank you so much for your great response, and understanding I was only making a very respectful plead to eliminate any unwanted or distracting ideas and products being thrown around. MPB, as I said, is something that is near-and-dear to so many of our hearts, because hair loss is so closely attached to our self image and even others around us.

I have narrowed my usage to 5% Mixoxidil, 2% Nizoral shampoo, and Spironolactone. I eliminated Saw Palmetto because of the increasing paranoia I had that it would lower the anabolic yield of steroids and supplements on cycle.

Russian Star has been discussing caffeine applied topically a lot lately to increase blood flow.

The only thing I'm still wanting to try... would be implementing a laser comb into my regimen. I am just unsure how to make one at home, and DO NOT want to buy from Hair Club for Men, since that would have a big upcharge for being 'name brand.'

What would you suggest is the best for 1) Blocking DHT 100% AT THE SCALP only, and 2) Invigorating the scalp to grow and thicken hair?

Permanent libido reduction? Yikes... I took Dutasteride for 3 straight months, and I felt this, pretty quickly.

Thanks, repped! I was just curious sine there was no seal, and no matter what the reputation, I don't trust any site that deals in nudge-nudge research dealings. It would be so easy to simply slip in some 99-cent per bottle Suave shampoo.

Oh no worries bro. You're concerns are completely grounded in reality, on this site or any other internet forum :D ESPECIALLY those that discuss hairloss prevention.

Interesting that you brought up the caffeine, my favorite line of shampoos is 'Thciker/Fuller/Hair', which has just added caffeine to all of their products. I use the shampoo, conditioner, and thickening serum daily.

Amazon.com: Thicker Fuller Hair Weightless Conditioner - 12 fl oz: Beauty

Just as with the Toco-8, I can't say that this has added to the efficacy of my regimen because I'm combining a few different product. But, it certainly isn't hurting. Their 'instantly thick serum' actually works very well. Between that and a slight amount of Toppik it does not appear that I'm dealing with MPB at all, even upon close inspection.

The only thing I'm still wanting to try... would be implementing a laser comb into my regimen. I am just unsure how to make one at home, and DO NOT want to buy from Hair Club for Men, since that would have a big upcharge for being 'name brand.'
I'm planning to post a full construction guide for building your own Laser Comb pretty soon. I built my own a couple years ago and do believe it has a positive effect. I've mentioned way back in this thread that I've been wanting to build a 'laser helmet' that works similar to the very high-dollar LLLT therapy units, and I'm finally in a spot where I can do that. I found the laser comb to be a bit of a drag to use, because you have to set out 10-15 min EOD and move the comb around with your hands, etc. With a 'helmet' you could just put it on your head while you were reading, etc. For me, that would make a big difference about how consistent I was using the device.

interested to see if ur planning on selling any of these helmets?

also thought i should let everyone know that when i started taking finasteride 2 years ago, i had the libido drop hard, wouldnt even move for me, but after 2 months, the sides went away and felt ,my libido was at least the same before ,10 times a day if i waned to lol. the fins affectiveness still looks to work to as its stil manintaining my hair . So to all newbies tryin out fin, give it 3 months to guage it.

Also with duts, if i dont get any sides from fin, what is the likely hood il get some from duts? anyone know?

Big massive throbbing reps sent your way, haha! :) THANK YOU.

Can't wait to see your 'blueprints' for building a home-made laser therapy device.

*Also... something just happened yesterday that had me concerned: A slightly sizable chunk (big enough so that I could see skin texture and actually see it fall from my head to the ground) of my scalp/dry skin surfaced and detached from my head. I have been having increasing scalp dryness issues as of late, but the weird part is I don't have the itching usually associated with it.

Ever since I started using the thick topical Spironolactone 5% along with my 2x/day Minoxidil 5% application, the dryness and chaffing of skin has increased. I don't want this to cause any more hairloss, but I don't think the skin health is directly attached to hair growth down at the gland/follicle, is it?

Anyway - is there anything I can/should be doing to avoid and heal this? I DON'T WANT TO STOP treatment, because blocking DHT at the site (scalp) is the BEST way to avoid hair loss, especially WHILE ON CYCLE. But... I also don't want my skin to flake like crazy!

*The odd part is, I don't overuse anything, I simply wash my hair 1x/day with Nizoral, apply 1ml Rogaine out of the shower, and then hours and hours later before bed, apply 1ml again of Rogaine, and add in a small amount (fits on my fingertip) of Spironolactone cream, directly on the "crown" area that is the thinnest, infamous for balding first.

:D It's actually pretty easy to do, the 650nm lasers are all over ebay, its basically wire them all up in parallel and connect an AC/DC adapter.

I wouldn't be surprised if the daily nizoral/sprio is drying your scalp out man. I don't use Spiro anymore (I would if I were to go on cycle), but when i did, it did make my scalp red/irritated. What I did to alleviate it was to rub skin lotion into my scalp at night before bed. You also might want to have a look at Emu Oil, which is supposed to have some anti-inflammatory properties as well. I've experimented with it before and suggested it to a few guys here who reported it successfully alleviating the 'itch' that goes along with scalp inflammation from DHT when on cycle.

Thank you for your always excellent help!

I cut out the Spiro 5% since my last post above, waiting to see what your advice was. I don't want chunks of my scalp falling out, haha. It's not 'that' severe, but when I gently towel dry my head after a shower, I can clearly see all the dead skin pieces left in the fibers, and even when I comb my hair small white pieces of skin detach from the surface and I have to 'comb them out.'

Do you think it's a combination of using Nizoral 2% daily in the shower, ALONG with the nightly 1x/day use of Spiro 5%? I see Nizoral is suggested only EOD at MOST in all the suggesitons I've read, why is that (especially if I'm injecting nearly every day, and DHT formation is constant on-cycle)?

Also, Emu oil looks great, the company I rep just came out with a shampoo with that in there, I will have a look, and, I also looked through the Thick Shampoo product line yesterday too you recommended.

Lastly, I only use Spiro 5% cream before bed, since it's so thick/white, and don't want to go in public with a glob of cream on my skull, so how would I use Emu oil then, and if I'm already using Nizoral 2% shampoo every day or even EOD, would that be enough to curtail DHT at the scalp?

Cobbled is right - AFAIK Nizoral is recommended EOD. What you should use every day, however, is a pyrithione zinc shampoo. I use a 'head and shoulders' brand that seems to work well.

Outstanding - my scalp was red and irritated on 2% spiro solution, so I'd imagine the 5% spiro cream and ED Ketoconozole are doing a number on your skin. Id try skipping the Sprio every 2 days or so and applying a skin conditioner/Emu oil and see how that works out.

Emu oil has components that my facilitate transdermal absorption, and the last thing you want is Spironolactone getting into your bloodstream.

Just my $.02...

PS Outstanding - I'll be getting the parts for the laser stuff next friday, stay tuned!

I have been using Lubriderm Lotion for a few days now first thing after showering in the morning. Only disadvantage is I can't apply Rogaine at the same time, so I am doing Rogaine 1x/day before bed along with the topical cream application of Spiro 5% as well.

Q: CAN I JUST BUY RAW CAFFEINE OR CAFFEINE CAPSULES, and add the powder contents of the pill into Emu Oil or a Trans-dermal carrier and rub on my scalp to increase blood flow and growth?

This was a ridiculously good and information helpful post. I especially liked the fact I should aboid Spiro and Emu Oil, since I ONLY WANT localized scalp-specific DHT eradication!!!

So... the ideal 'perfect' Hair Loss Prevention Intervention would look like this:

Every Day
- Rogaine 5% (1ml before bed as a minimum)
- Emu Oil or Lubriderm Healing Lotion every morning after shower

Every Other Day
- 2% Nizoral Shampoo in shower (massage in, and let stand for at least 5min)
- 5% Spironolactone cream before bed

If Possible (Future)
- Laser Therapy Every Other Day for at least 15 minutes
- Caffeine topical usage 1x/day to increase blood flow and follicle strength/regrowth
- Special "Thicker" Shampoo/Conditioner usage (forget the name)
- NTBM's new Emu Oil Based Shampoo

:)

Is there any place to get just azelaic acid?
I was planning to get spironolactone for an upcoming epistane cycle, but it seems the spironolactone can get into your system from scalp application and lower your test levels. I'm also not really looking for something I need to use forever after the cycle is over. Seems that azelaic acid might fit the bill, but all of them come with minoxidil.
Are there any other sites I should be looking at besides wholesalehairproducts?

Ok one of the products I was getting from Dr Lee was the minoxidil/finastride topical mixture.

Does anyone know if I got some finas from a research site and blended it with some walmart minoxidil that would work and be safe for topical use??

Interesting... I use 5% Spironolactone every other night before bed directly on the crown of my skull, most notorious for the thinning and balding first. I am on cycle though, so I shouldn't be too concerned about lowering Test levels, since I'm taking in WELL above natural production levels, right?

AA seems interesting, but I also ran into the same problem when making purchases from Whole Sale Hair Products, it wasn't offered as a standalone product. But... shouldn't my Nizoral 2% and Spironolactone 5% cream destroy all site-specific scalp DHT conversion?

Wholesalehairproducts.com has liquid fin.
Interesting, as I'm never putting ORAL Finasteride in my body again; it wouldn't get into the blood if applied to the scalp?

So for my problems with spironolactone, I read a post of one guy who started spironolactone for two weeks with hormone tests before and after and had his T levels halved. Thats all I need to stay away from it.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3207614
This treatment looks like one of the best options to me. No chance of horome related sides. Azelaic acid isn't based on hormonal structure, unlike Finasteride and Spironolactone. I'd love to see some zinc sulphate and azelaic acid in a product somewhere.

Also I would guess some Finasteride gets absorbed through the scalp.

I like reading about this stuff so I figure i'll help you guys out and post some good links...

http://floraleads.com/ointment/

http://floraleads.com/HAIRCARE.HTM#BHO

Those two together combined with a shampoo like Flawless Couture Java Lustre Cleansing Shampoo(great ingredient profile and just picked up two bottles for myself), Toco-8 and maybe throw in Nizarol should help a lot IMO.

You guys should sign up over on Datbtrues forum.. A good thread going right now about hairloss. I've been doing this remedy(If you read the thread you'll know what i'm talking about) for the past 3 nights and I can tell a HUGE difference. Not in hair regrowth but my scalp feels sooo smooth and my hair is softer, I have thick hair but its soft enough that I can run my fingers through it easier.

Also, Go over to NTBM site, go to their blog, then read RussianStars post about hairloss. He talks about shampoo's with caffeine among other stuff. Very good read!

Concerning topical finasteride, someone at hairless help made a topical and tested dht levels before and after. According to this thread at least, topical fin is absorbed systemically and reduces serum dht to about the extent of oral fin, ongoing discussions of whether it at least works in the scalp better than oral along with the dudes lab results are in the thread below:

Buuuuut....... I'm on cycle, and I'm far surpassing my endogenous usual T production, plus I'm only using Spiro every other night before bed.

I do have to say though, it seems more and more like perhaps A. Acid might be a better choice.

NTBM is only on the brink of releasing their shampoo with caffeine, vitamin e, and emu oil.

JUST ANNOUNCED, AND READY TO PURCHASE! (Already paid for mine and it's on the way)! :)

http://www.needtobuildmuscle.com/store/Health-And-Wellness/N2-Shampoo-7oz-p85.html

BOOYAH - tons of science-backed ingredients and a super solid premise, I can't wait to start using this shampoo on alternating days with Nizoral to keep my scalp hydrated and my hair healthy and follicles strong and rejuvenated! Felt like I waited for this longer than any supplement product before it, can't wait to put it to the test and see if it was worth the wait.

So... Rogaine 5%, Spironalactone 5%, Nizoral 2%, NS-Shampoo. SkaDooch! :)

PS: While you're waiting for the next five years until the potential cure and preventative medication is made available to humans (see the link directly above my post!), N2-Shampoo might just fit the bill. You'll need about 6 cases though, haha!

Haha! 6 cases! I'm just hoping that this drug will be available as a RC first, but I doubt it! The hair loss is really the only thing preventing me from doing some of the greatest cycles (DHT based). Although my Epi cycle wasn't bad at all, the 1-T cycle I did was HORRIBLE! Although I did use Nizoral in my Epi cycle, so maybe that helped.

How long will one bottle last do you think?
N2-Shampoo should be in the mailbox when I got home, I just bought one bottle for now, keeping the budget tight, but I will let everyone know what I find as far as how long it lasts and all the effects etc :)

I am really excited about this, haven't been excited about a 'supplement' for a long time, which I suppose you could consider this to be.

Did RussianStar formulate this? The ingredients are pretty much the same as what he was talking about in his last blog post.

I don't know if he formulated the product or not, haven't heard from him in a long, long time. He is the most sporadic, yet lovable and knowledgeable, guy I know on the forums. Anyway, the product has been a real pleasure to use, the smell is amazing, and it seem like even at 2 showers a day, the bottle will last at least 1 1/2 months, or 6 weeks MINIMUM.

PS: I saw something this week at Wal Mart just killing time, next to the Rogaine... Nu-Sil or something that sounds like that? I forget the name now of course, but it says "Designed by a Molecular Biologist" or something to that effect. Anyone know about that?

I agree. Smells damn good. I've been using for about a week now and barely have put a dent in the bottle. At 1 shower a day I would say this will last 2-3 months. You're only supposed to apply a dime sized amount anyhow. :)

Is this safe to use, even if I have no issues???

I have quite thick hair, I guess im 28... Its thinned maybe 5%... but I know that comes with age.. but if I can keep my hair healthy I will.. even if only using something like this once a week? I just dont want to do any damage.

:)

Tho I wonder how much it means using these products.. ive prob used bad stuff for my whole life, had clay/mud/gel in my hair for the last 20 years...and washed it everyday.... i stress a ****load... everyone in my family has thin hair but me.. so its interesting how genres work or dont work!

When i read dime-sized, my brain says nickle-sized ;) HAHAHA! Just like when I read 600mg/Test a week I read a gram.

The smell is just plain awesome, intoxicating almost!!!

This is something I would HIGHLY suggest, because so many of the additives within the shampoo are proven in scientific investigations to PREVENT hair shedding and thinning - so you're in a much better situation to reap the rewards of this great product from NTBM when compared to someone already suffering clear signs of alopecia. DEFINITELY get a bottle or two, and enjoy!!! :)
