Green Tea Extract

Are green tea extract capsules just finely ground green tea? Or is it actually an extract? I've been opening up my capsules and pouring them into hot water and it tastes just like a cup of strong brewed green tea? If anyone knows please chime in. Thanks!
 
It should be an extract standardized for EGCG, depending on the brand. Look on the supplement facts and it should probably tell you the % it is standardized to. I use nutra's 50% EGCG and it has a bitter taste, not like green tea at all.
