Try a Benadryl at night. Like an hour before bed. I pop 2 when I'm on nights off and can't sleep. Get a solid 8 hours and wake up feeling great.
 
My experience with melatonin is unless you're deficient it doesn't do a hell of a lot. I've worked swings and graveyard for 10 years now. I've tried everything I can to make sure I can sleep when I need to and Benadryl is the only OTC med I've found that doesn't make me groggy and feel like I went on a binder the next morning. And actually puts me to sleep. Zquil works nicely as well, but you need quite a bit of it and it gets expensive. But, melatonin might be the way to go. Or some zma supplement.
 
Was only thinking cas they say nsaids decrease protein synthesis not sure if Benadryl would. They got herbal tea to help with sleep too
 
Day shift always screws up my world. If I have to be at work by 7am it's a guarantee I can't sleep the night before. Pick up a 100 count Benadryl bottle and take 2 before bed. Give it an hour or so. But make sure you aren't getting called in early or anything. It's doable but sucks getting up earlier than you expected on it. Though it beats the hell out of no sleep at all.
 
I hit cardio everyday one way or another and dedicate two days to cardio alone one ss one hiit only thing I need to watch is bp mine is naturally little higher but once I do it i'll make a detailed log. probably some time this winter
