Gears of War. Best Game of the Year.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what it was. I couldn't get a certain file that I needed for it to run on my ATI card, and i figured I'd give it a shot anyway...and...well....kaboom. :D

Oh, I did get an XGL live CD to work (forgot the distro)...it was so fwcking cool! :D But, unfortunately, when I tried to install from the live CD I couldn't get the install to complete and it wouldn't recognize my USB keyboard :(

Thanks! Im going to check this out...Ive seen Beryl/Ubuntu demos that really look slick - I got that X1900 in there though so I havent made an attempt yet :)

I was playing my favorite game today, socom online and someone was saying that a whole bunch of people are back in the store returning their PS3's.......for every one that is sold two come back to be returned. I dont know how true this is.
 
The 360s from the release are well known to be dodgey as hell, mine used to freeze up and do all sorts of annoying crap. The newer one my brother has doesn't have this problem thankfully.

After I do my bike test today I'll probably be playing GoW for the rest of the day, the game has me hooked. Very few games have me coming back for more nowadays so this game is quite special.

You mean for every three PS3s sold two are returned? I don't think it's a physical possibility that one is bought and two are returned ;P
 
Over the years SONY have destroyed any company that has crossed its path with better gameplay, easy to use controlers, contsistant quality of graphics and over all look of the console. (after microsoft made the xbox the size of a briefcase).
any way both sega and nintendo who if we cast our minds back were the original big dogs in gaming have fallen vicitims too sony theres only xbox left in the race and am sure they soon will be making ps games in the future just like sega do.

You mean for every three PS3s sold two are returned? I don't think it's a physical possibility that one is bought and two are returned ;P

I think Nintendo is going to have a big hit with the Wii - they're going after a whole different, and larger, market than either the 360 or the PS3.

As for PS3 and 360 glitches - that stuff ALWAYS happens when a new machine comes out - remember when the early PS2's were eating DVD's when you stood them vertical?:) In a year or so, when developers start to maximize the hardware of the the new consoles, we're all going to crap our pants at the same time :)

Eeeesh, I highly doubt that bro. Nintendo is still a viable company and the Wii is getting great reviews in terms of launch titles, and gameplay. Sega just had some really unfortunate intercooling mishaps that made the Dreamcast unreliable, plus not enough third party developing so they failed horribly.

This is Microsoft we are talking about here, the third largest corporation on the planet in terms of market value with over 260 billion...lol..I see what you are saying, but PS2 simply had a far more accessible core system that developers were allowed to run with, and did a far better job as stated above with enlisting the services of third parties. I don't think that is going to be as much of an advantage PS3, and I think the launch of Gears of War is a testament to that.

As a console, PS3 is better in terms of raw power. 360 has a better card I think, but the ease of developing on the 360 is much better than that of the PS3, at this point at least. Which is what really counts in terms of gameplay, and the amount of actual games coming out. PS3 can be this bohemith in terms of raw power, but if game develepors cannot properly access that power than it's all for nothing.

That's the truth - if Sony developers can't harness the power of that new Cell processor, then you wont see the mega-powerful PS3 doing much more than you'll see on the 360. Which, btw, has a triple core 3Ghz CPU so it ain't no slouch either.

What I dont understand is, reading over the specs for the Cell:

It doesnt seem like a CPU that's really tailor made for gaming - more scientific number crunching, data simulations, servers, etc. It requires an entirely different programming methodology to harness its power, which means game development houses have to spend R&D funds and time to train their developers to code for that chip. On the contrary, with the Xbox 360 developers can create games for it AND the PC at the same time using Microsoft's myriad of software development tools like the XNA framework, etc. Implementing hardware that may not be as evolutionary as the PS3, but much easier to pump out games on. Which, to the suits, means more profits.
 
Speaking of Nintendo, the Wii is going to rock the kasba with it's party games. I just wish I had friends :'(

I here the wii has the best and funnest gameplay. Ps3 seems to be visually about the same as xbox360, but this is all word of mouth. I haven played either.
 
Visually I think they will always be very close, if not the same. The PS3 has potential, that nasty word being there again, to have richer and deeper gameplay than the 360. But, like I said above, PS3 developers are having a notoriously tough time maximizing the video cards, and GPU for that thing.
 
Nintendo has incredible gameplay...its cheezy little games are almost always much more fun than most games I've ever played for 360 or PS2 (haven't touched a PS3 yet).

What I'm bumbed about is SEGA disappearing. SEGA's dreamcast was amazing when it came out, not to mention the gameplay felt incredible. They were just simply out marketed by SONY and driven out of the console market. And to think, they revolutionized console gaming with SEGA Genesis. Sad, sad, sad.

Absolutely Kwyck. I bought the Dreamcast when it first came out, that was a really great machine. XBOX I think 'borrowed' alot of their guys when they went down, and I think they had the greatest games ever.
 
Ive heard various rumors about Sega making a comback to the hardware market - but they're just rumors.

Ill definitely be getting a Wii within the next couple of weeks. I'll also get a 360 and PS3 when they dont cost an arm and a leg. :)

I'm an XBOX groupie so I had to have a 360, lol. It hasn't given me too many problems, just an occasional freeze. Gears of War has made it all worth it :)

And for $259 the Wii is by far and away the most worth it right now. Also, I don't know about anybody else, but I feel that there aren't going to be any new consoles for the rest of the decade, so waiting a bit is not gonna hurt cha BV ;) Its a good call
 
I'm going to pick up the 360 soon WITH Gears of War, i keep seeing the commercials for it and i'm dying to play it, oh ya and Halo 2, looks SIC! Mullet and suggested games i pick up for 360?

i hope sega make a return i too was a huge fan of the dreamcast games like shen mu and jet set radio were awesome and as for your opinion on present consoles am taking a page out of your book the wii first on the list ;)

the dreamcast i must say came out with some crazy off the wall games. Too bad mine is collecting dust. Oh! just remembered my friend never gave back my Power Stone! that was a cool game.
 
buddy of mine had a program for dreamcast on his comp that could burn w/e games onto it. H ehad to have well over 150 titles lol, he said he also had software to port and tranfer titles over to his dreamcast so he could then burn them ,but i nvr got back to him to find out if he ever did this.

-as far as the ps3 goes, as stated it hs a lot of potential, but only time will tell if they can actually use this potential. as of now nothing else operates off of 128 bits , so the cell eff. has potential. But as everyone says,.... by the time sony builds p their Goliath console,... microsoft will come out with more GOW"S, Graw's, and Halos, that sony wont ever be able to catch up as far as profits. Idk, the next year or so will be very interesting as far asthe gaming industry goes..
 
Got the PS3, but I can't play war games, it stresses me out, and I feel like I want to throw the whole thing out the window. I got Tony Hawk project 8. Pretty good game, but there won't be a really good game. We have to give the devellopers time to adapt and then we'll have crazy games.

i received it on monday but i just left it in the box knowing that finals were damn near over. didn't want to screw up the whole semester of busting my ass in 10 days. got exempted from my last two finals as of yesterday:D figured it was destiny:afro:
