GDA advice

Hi guys,

I've been looking into these glucose disposal agents and nutrition partitioners. Can someone explain in laymens terms how they use them and the results they expect? Also, what are the best products currently on the market in this field? I've seen Glycophase, GlycoLog, Predator -- anything else I should look into and what are your personal experiences with them?

I'm not well educated on this subject, so I'm here to learn. Anything you can point to that might help me better understand the effects and when/why to use them would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm Not familiar with many of the pre made gda stacks sold like the supplements you listed, I personally use cinnamon and berberine as my own gda combo. Berberine being the best in my opinion, on paper it's comparable to metformin, in real life I find it similar but weaker then metformin. But I still think it's the best single GDA ingredient. You use a gda to help manage carbs and glucose levels/Insulin sensitivity.

The better your insulin sensitivity the better you are at building muscle and burning fat. I like to use a gda with any higher carb meals, I also like using it before bed so I wake up with a low fasted glucose number.

The benifits of a gda include
Shuttling carbs into the muscle into your muscles to give you a better pump and more energy. If you shuttle more carbs into your muscles that means there's less carbs that can be stored as fat therefore it can help you lower bodyfat levels or prevent extra fat gain, better insulin sensitivity which also means less food cravings. Many of these things are done because a GDA is also a nutrient partitioner making better use of everything you eat.

That's all to the best of my knowledge, personal experience and some trial and error.

Because I'm basing a big portion on my personal experience and not some studies I'm sure someone might disagree with me. But that's what I've found. Some guys say don't take it pre workout but I think it's a good time because it's going to shuttle carbs to the muscle, post workout it's not necessary because your muscles are going to already be like a sponge at that point.

Thanks for the information, and thoughtful response. I really appreciate it.

Glucose Disposal Agents (GDA) are supplements that help your body digest/utilize/transport carbs and direct them towards muscle glycogen storage and away from fat cells.

They enhance the power of insulin by improving insulin sensitivity in muscle cells, ensuring the carbs you do eat go towards replenishing glycogen and supporting muscle growth rather than building up your fat stores.

In a sense, GDA's enhance your body’s response to exercise, thereby supporting better performance, recovery, and body composition.

GDA's contain a wide assortment of compounds that support glucose disposal. GDA's not only help regulate blood sugar levels and insulin release, but they also optimize nutrient partitioning (how your body stores nutrients).

Benefits of Glucose Disposal Agents:

Enhance insulin sensitivity

Support muscle growth

Aid fat loss

Promote glycogen storage

Reduce hunger cravings

Maintain stable blood sugar levels

Lower inflammation

Function as an insulin mimetic

Help you look sexy as f**k. ;)

On big carb days I take 1+ serving 10 to 15 min before meals.

A GDA bottle lasts a while if you only use it on carb days. But I also take it daily for its amazing overall health benefits w/regards to insulin sensitivity, ampk activation, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol lowering ability etc etc.

In the 1990's when I first met Lyle McDonald we all used GDA's on the carb up and then for 2 days post carb up to help speed up re-entry into ketosis. Also taken pre meal.

They REALLY shine when you use them for what they were created for: big carb meals but they are also health promoting so I take half a serving 2 to 3 x a day every day.

It's my favorite and longest used/type of product that I have been using in some shape or form since the 1990s.

GDA's are great and really a next level type supplement with specific uses for those who understand the benefits and have seen results with them.

I know many who have never used or needed a GDA (lucky skinny sobs haa) and guys who are obsessed with them (like me).

There is also a huge sub culture that use GDA's as a "cheat meal defense" but its really not what they were designed for but there is some merit behind using it for that as well ....but that's another topic for another day...

Yeah I definitely agree, no point in taking them after working out. Exercise will already increase AMPK and glucose transporters.

The reason a lot of people will say not to take them before working out is that many of the GDA ingredients work by increasing AMPK, which can increase myostatin. In theory, it could hurt your gains. Practically speaking, I doubt it would be that detrimental, exercise increases AMPK as well, and you wouldn’t avoid that for gains.

All of this!
Hands down my personal choice as well
Morphogen Morphodrive would be second

Ya I think the impact is minimal and if your on steroids I believe the negative impact is non-existent.

It's kinda like when everyone started saying don't take nolva on cycle because it lowers igf 1 and will kill your gains.

Every bodybuilder from the 1990's will disagree lol. They all were using it and they were all freaks

Thanks for this detailed response. Do you know whether I can get this outside of the US? I just went to buy two bottles but can’t select Australia from the list when checking out.

It's possible yes....I think there is an email from you, will respond there.....

I love GlycoPhase myself, ive been out of it for a few months and i miss it. It absolutely made a difference in both my performance, recovery and body recomposition.

I can’t remember whether I emailed to ask or not. My name is Michael, so if there’s an email from someone with that name with a gmail account it’s probably me lol
Lol actually it was a person named Karen just a damn coincidence they are in Aussie and water Glucosatrol lol. I'll PM you.

If one is on a low carb diet, would there be reason to still take a GDA?
If your obese then you could potentially use it to correct your insulin sensitivity. But if my insulin sensitivity was already good I wouldn't even bother taking a gda with any meal that had less than 40G of carbohydrates in most circumstances. I'm basing that on my response to carbs, I'm not saying it's some magic recipe

Thanks for the fast response....I'm not obese but am insulin resistant, older in my mid 50s and carry more fat than Id like in my mid section even though I'm fairly lean in general. I watch carb intake and was curious if a GDA could help with some recomp affects. Sounds like it couldn't hurt to try one out.

Are you on any medication for that? Berberine is probably the strongest OTC GDA. On paper it's very similar to metformin, in real life it's not quite as good as metformin but it's still pretty good GDA.

More mild and natural alternatives are cinnamon and ACV

I tried to get a script but my PCP says I'm still hanging on within normal range so wont do. I'll grab some Berberine and Cinnamin, thanks. (Not familiar with ACV offhand).

Edit: Ah, ACV = Apple Cider Vinegar :-)
