I figured we should have a thread about gaming as well as the one about movies and tv shows.

Ive always been a gamer, started out on the C64 and got almost every consol and pc setup since then. But 10 years ago i fell of just because of family and work took up so much time. But lately ive been missing it and Starfield looks so awesome that ive invested in a new rig. Should be here in a couple of weeks and i cant wait!

Just a heads up Starfield runs a bit poorly right now, especially on Nvidia GPUs. If you are into modding though there’s some fixes out there.

Honestly this year will probably go down as one of the best ever for releases, so still tons to dive into from recent releases, but if you’ve been out for awhile there’s so much to look at.

I’m sure I’ll have plenty of thoughts for this thread eventually. 😅

I had a 5 year period I call my “black hole” of gaming and entertainment and it was fun trying to play lots of the things I missed. I don’t have as much time nowadays, but I still find enough to get through some stuff.

Yeah I saw there was a DLSS mod out already. So I’m guessing I’ll be fine with my setup but we will just have to wait and see.

I did play Diablo 4 at lunch, but the seasonal stuff was such a letdown that I fell off quick. I haven’t played much of anything else but next to Starfield, Cyberpunk is on the top of my list. Apparently the DLC coming this month also comes with a bunch of fixes and updates to the core game. So looking forward to getting into that as well.

Ya I booted up Starfield, but I’m saving it for hopefully some patches down the road.

Really looking forward to Cyberpunk though. Holding off playing again until the patch + DLC (I played when it originally came out already).

So many games it really just depends on what someone likes to play, so many options.

All I play is Warzone 2. Warzone 1's speed and mechanics are better but it's only cheaters left on that. Are there any other fast paced FPS battle Royales? PUBG and Fortnite are too slow.

I don’t really play them, but the only one I can think off the top of my head is Apex Legends I think it’s called. My brother was really into that a few years back.

I don’t game much. I always think I’m gonna start doing more, but I just don’t have the time. I do games on my phone on and off, that’s usually easier to pick up and play than trying to sit down at the Xbox for a couple hours. I have the game pass on my Xbox and I keep getting games on that, but I barely play them. I usually have a day a week I get on Forza Horizon 5. Forza has been the only game I’ve played regularly in years since I had my son.

I tried starfield. Looks great but just too spoilt by nms. Having to have game loading sequences between take off and landings breaks the immersion for me. I want to choose where I land. The ship combat is pretty decent though.

Apex is really the only other big BR I can think of, wasn't a fan though, just not for me.

I don't think Starfield looks great, its filter and graphics were a little meh. I've decided to wait for some patches or for some serious modding then I'll check it out again in the future.

No Man Sky is one of the games i will revisit when i get my new rig. That is probably your ultimate space exploration game as of now. Starfield seems like its more an rpg over an explorer game.

If you are into those kinda games are you following Star Citizen? 10 years in the making now.

I pretty much only play Turn based stuff these days. Civ 3 ate a huge chunk of my life, but I'm not into all the flashy stuff the newer Civ games do now. Card combat games are popular now thanks to Slay the spire, but Monster train is the best IMO. I'm still waiting for Defender's Quest 2. The first one is a turn based, tower defense, RPG and it was a blast! I have an 8tb HD with pretty much every game ever made up to PS3 that I dip into now and then.
Have you looked into Baldurs Gate 3? It has turn based combat but with a rich RPG world as well. Its getting rave reviews and people seem to love it.

Definitely spent some life on Diablo 4 recently. Nostalgia brought me back to it lol. Pretty decent for newer games. I’m cynical and biased towards the shite gameplay from first person shooters anymore so this was refreshing

My wife and I played the hell out of Diablo 3. Four is on my radar. I'm with ya on FPS's, zero interest any more.

They realized what a cash cow fps have become, and people will pay, even when it doesn’t help lol.
Diablo 4 is definitely a huge game so it keeps it interesting. So far (knock on wood) only things for money in the game are cosmetic. Hopefully it stays that way. I’m cautiously optimistic.

I contemplated getting a PS4 just to play this game. Nostalgia. Diablo 1 was the first computer game I played. But it's only online play correct? That's a drawback. I want to beat it and be done with it haha.

Unlike the mobile version. Some gamer payed a total of $50,000 for a gem that maxes out your gear. It takes 2 years of daily play and a lot of luck to get it naturally. He must have more money than brains, because he deleted his game account after posting the story online!

Yeah that’s just insane to me. I guess spend it on virtual gems if ya got an extra $50k lying around?

You can turn off cross network play to give it more of the old school feel. Every once in a blue moon you’ll run across a player but it’s rare when you go this route.
I would never create a hardcore character due to the online only fact. One glitch or lag and you’re toast lol. Rage would ensue. I stand by my original assumption, all new games suck

I've been following the progress of it and it's amazing how much care the devs are taking with it. It's been in beta for over 2 years and they're working hard on fixes. Other AAA studios are mad at them for raising the bar lol. I'm gonna wait a bit though. I played a lot of DnD when I was young and loved the first 2 rule sets. This game uses the 5e rule set and I find it needlessly complicated. also, TSR hobbies sold DnD and Magic: The gathering to Wizards of the coast a while back. Most people refer to them as Wizards of the woke lol.
I did dabble in DnD in my younger years but not enough to be able to pick out different rule sets. I did however play Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, pluss the Dark Sun games if anyone remembers them. But im like the opposite of you in that I have a hard time with turn based combat.

I played D4 on my PS4 and even with the low quality graphics and low fps on that machine i really enjoyed it. Until the released season 1 and I had to do everything over again. I guess i just burnt out.

I have played 1, 2 and 3. Lately 2 and 3 have been my go to on my Switch. Great games to just pick up and play for 10-20 minutes when you have the time. I also played Diablo Immortal on my phone a bunch, but i didnt spend a dime on it. Which of course made it really hard to keep up with the Whales.

Ya I played BG1-2 and lots similar back in the day. Nowadays I don't play as much turn based though. Interested in BG3 if I have the time or feel the urge to play down the road.

I was intrigued by D4, but the previous microtransactions in their other games and the way the battlepass and seasonal approach were set up I just felt it wasn't worth getting invested in at this point for me.

Finished up Spider-man Remastered last night, hoping to breeze through the Miles Morales one next all in prep for Spider-man 2 in October. Sony has a State of Play today and hoping the rumors of Horizon FW Complete Edition for PC are true. I've been putting off playing FW since the DLC hasn't been on sale and I'd prefer to play on PC like I did with the first one.

Cyberpunk update goes live today, the reviews ive seen are very good. The DLC drops next week and people are raving about that too.

I havent gotten my pc rig yet, but hopefully it will be here by next week. Im having a hard time deciding on Starfield or Cyberpunk for my first game.

I just finished miles morales so I’m about to dive into Cyberpunk while I wait for Spider man 2 I think.

I’m going to wait out Starfield there’s tons of quality of life mods so I’ll wait for even more. I’m a bit of a snob though and I’d like to play with DLSS and good HDR.

A new turn based/survival horror game just dropped that I might get when the reviews come out. It's called Days of Doom. Looks promising, but I've been burned on early access and day 1 titles before!

Oh I saw the trailer pop up for that today, but I didn't watch. 😅

Yesterday Ubisoft announced that The Division 3 is in development. I played tons of the first one and not so much of the second. But it being a Swedish studio who makes it I feel im obligated to back them up as a fellow nordic.

I recently have gotten back into gaming as I have had to move in with my mother(hospice) and take care of her.
Picked up a decent pc and I'm loving DayZ on my days off work.

DayZ is a open world survival pvp game that takes place in a zombie apocalypse. Basically the same as walking dead, you survive
the zombies and gather food and supplies. You may get sick and need to go into town and loot a antibiotic or need an IV etc.
Other players are free to kill you, loot you or be nice and help you,
There is base building, cars, helicopters whatever you can find and fix. You need spark plugs, radiator, fuel etc

You can play on official servers known as vanilla that are very tough to survive.
Then they have modded servers with crazy loot.
A recent mod called ARMA reforged is very popular.
Really good sandbox fpsmmo Highly recommend
tough but very rewarding game

People love Tarkov. I'm a casual console Warzone guy myself. New COD Zombies is out later this month. 17th I think.

I was basically addicted to Warzone for a considerable period of time. :censored:

Been playing Cyberpunk again and almost to the expansion portion, excited to give that a shot.

DayZ is so hard! I couldnt figure it out.

DayZ sounds very similar to State of Decay, is it?

I got my rig on friday so I tried it out a bit over the weekend. I have famiy sharing on Steam so I got to try some games without buying them.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Looked amazing and deep. I played a few hours and enjoyed it but I want in the right mindset for it right now.
Monster Hunter World - I LOVE Monster Hunter and I think ill be playing this a bunch with my son.
No Man Sky - This became the winner for me at this time. It looked great, felt great and it was more of a flow game which I was in the mood for. Going to be playing this a bunch.

Alan Wake 2 is coming this month and I really enjoy Remedy and their games. So I might see if i can get hold of a cheap Alan Wake and Control bundle and play those before thr sequel hits.

Cyberpunks systems are much better in this new 2.0 update. The way cybernetics work and the updates to the skill tree are better than when I played at launch.

Idk where you like to play (I like GOG but most of my games are probably on steam), but Epic gives out lots of decent games for free. Pretty sure I have Alan wake and Control on there and got them for free at one point. AW2 looks great but I’m a wimp and don’t usually play horror games.

That sounds pretty wild except the pvp part. I usually game at night after work and I don't have the patience for 12 year old Koreans wiping me out lol! I got a game like that called Dead Age. it's a turn based survival horror with a focus on decisions and skill trees. They ruined part 2 by trying to make it like Xcom.

It's great because at first you must learn basic survival skills to stay alive. Build a fire, hunt and cook, get gear.

Then the game begins with open world pvp.
You never know when you may wake up hog tied and robbed.

The player base is has been great. Mostly adults in my experience. Check out anarchyhd or runningmanz on YouTube

I've never played state of decay.
I only enjoy games with tremendous risk. Open world sandbox pvp. I love small scale fps combat that is non instanced. I prefer a game where skill and player ability trumps gear grinding and capped skills.

Last game that could hold my attention was darkfall. I play cod etc but it never holds my interest more than a week of gun grinding blah

Played thorugh Control main story this weekend, exactly my kinda game. It has a crazy supernatural story that probably is hard to follow if you arent like me and read EVERYTHING you can find. Combat was probably a little easy, but I didnt mind. Im gonna work my way through the DLCs now. One is an Alan Wake tie in and im hoping to get through that and the original Alan Wake before Alan Wake 2 comes out. But seeing as I dont have that much time for gaming that might be a stretch!

Ya Control is pretty sweet. Good use of ray tracing too to dabble in.

I always like to check Invalid Link Removed when deciding what games to start. I don't always have a ton of time and this can help me plan out how long a game might be in between other things like releases. A lot of times I'll play 1-2 small indie games between bigger releases as a cleanse or break so to speak. A simple plat-former (like Cocoon might be next for me) after a AAA title is always fun to me.

Had a character 12 hours old. Killed one other player and had traveled like 50kilometers. Decent gear, AK , long rifle, silenced pistol plenty of ammo food.

And I got sloppy started moving into a town without stop looking and listening and ran right into the barrel of a bk 12 shotgun at night in close quarters.

That's why I like this game. Other guy hit the jackpot because I got sloppy and paid the ultimate price.

I might try squads on steam but I'm enjoying playing dayz for a couple hours logging then back in when I have time. Building up a character etc

Didn't know we had a gaming discussion. Just putting in my two cents of personal recommendations based on the few hours a week I sometimes have...

FPS: Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2
ARPG: Diablo 3 (still an amazing game to this day)
Souls-like: Elden Ring (we have a love/hate relationship)
MMORPG: Guild Wars 2 (best community of players I've ever encountered in this genre)
Platformer: Crash Bandicoot

My wife and I played the hell out of Diablo 3. Four is on my radar. I'm with ya on FPS's, zero interest any more.
I think my wife's ex ruined video games for her, they're like a swear word in the house now lol.
When I was single my boy and I could crush a Saturday in our underwear 😅

I know the gaming systems on pc are way better but he and I still rally out some killer fortnite marathons. that's the only game I'm able to get into these days but dang man, I still love it. perfect combination of old school cartoony, with new school COD type of gameplay for me.

In my early teens after my parents divorced my dad and I would go to the mall once/week and drop $10 into Gauntlet. He loved the warrior and I'd play the elf. We did that for a few months and those were some good times!

Oh damn, I haven’t thought about Gauntlet in a long time. We had a version on the PS2 for a while, we sunk a lot of time into that. My dad and sister like gaming some too.

Watched a cool documentary on arcade games called “insert coin” on the tubi network! (Free with a lot of good stuff)

haha too funny. we had an old school arcade a short walk from my place and would occasionally walk down there to blow some quarters and have lunch. now that he's 14 we still hit it occasionally although far less frequently. parking in Tacoma is a bit more sketchy now too......

Lol well, I need all the help I can get. I seem to die all the time to bullets rounding corners and stupid stuff like that, but I never get them.

That’s not really going to be fixed by modded controllers that’s more an issue with the poor net code and server tick rates in games.

Gotta get the fps up or minimize input lag so that the other stuff you can’t control is the only limiter.

It is tough and frustrating at times though.

I’m getting psyched for spider-man 2 next week. Got to the DLC for Cyberpunk but will probably wait to start til after SM2.

Maybe try the mw3 beta this weekend..
