Gainers are so expensive. I would buy good quality whey isolate and add oats, peanut butter, banana, maybe even cottage cheese and put all in some whole milk. Boom that's a natural gainer.
And remember gaining weight is all about having a calorie surplus so you need to just eat more. Don't be afraid if you gain a little fat you can always lose that later gaining good quality muscle is harder than losing fat IMO. So just Liftandeat
If you wanted to do it precisely you could count your calories by downloading one of those apps like myfitnesspal.
Hey guys im looking to buy more protein, im an ectomorph and looking for a gainer. Should i buy whey and add carbs to it or buy a gainer? Any recommendations?
buy some whey mix with milk and peanut butter and oats and you have a pretty tasty gainer without some nasty filler and extra sugar but I did see that MTS is coming out with a gainer and there whey is awesome so I would expect the mass builder to be the same
The whole body somatotyping thing is largely bogus -- there are all sorts of unique individual differences in things like fat distribution, muscle insertions, bone lengths and so on, but if you're not gaining weight, the simple truth is that you aren't eating enough. It's nothing special about your body; you just need more calories.
A gainer essentially is just whey with processed carbs added; the only real benefit there is convenience.
For getting more calories, I'd suggest a few things:
Track your intake for a while, honestly and accurately; you'll probably find you're eating less than you think you are
Use calorie-dense whole foods to bolster your diet: nuts and nut butters, olive and coconut oil, avocados, full-fat dairy, whole grains, and a lot of other foods are all great choices.
Establish appropriate protein and fat minimums in your diet but feel free to treat the rest of the macros as discretionary
For hitting that protein minimum, adding a protein product of your choice is fine; I wouldn't look to it for calories, though. Getting one that tastes good is usually my priority, but crowd favorites here like PEScience's Select manage to taste good while also being high quality.
I would get a good protein powder and then get your carbs from whole food. Check out some protein powders at Strong Supplement Shop. Invalid Link Removed
