Funny question about how to add more weight...

So I have the keys to my boxing gym and we have a rack with a bench and weight plates up to 325. I’m happy about that but would like to add more weight... we have a few lighter dumbbells, was thinking about attach them to the bar.

So my question is, how can I attach them to the bar the best way? Preferably with less swing and bounce.

I was debating if I should tape, tie them with ziplock bands or hang them with rubber bands, anyone been messing around with a similar setup?
 
I would be careful if you are in the gym alone with no spotter.

You want to attach dumbbells to an olympic bar to add weight for squats or bench press?
Squats, I can see if they had chains or bring your own up to 60 pounds I believe...

Bench Press, you're asking for some balancing issues that could be potentially hazardous.
Your body, your choice. I'd cut a length of rope so on the press you're increasing the weight just as you extend the last foot or so, to add that resistance to press it out, then when you recover downward, it's the 325 only and more control.

I've been looking at chains but their expensive to add an increasing resistance to feel the heavier weight.
At the moment 325 is my low rep weight, maxing out at about 400 1rm. I'd never try a 1rm alone.

325 is a rep weight for me as well, normally I don’t lift at the boxing gym because they don’t have enough weight but since everything is closed now I have to do what I they can with what I have.

We have a few 15lb dumbbells (the silver smaller kind) that I want to attach, like you said I want to avoid the bar to be unbalanced and have swing from the weights. Maybe I can zip tie them tight to the bar?

This is mostly for my bench workouts I want to use the extra dumbbells. Btw it’s a it’s a regular bar but the weights are giant rubber weights so I don’t think I can fit more plates, even if I had.
 
So I managed to zip tie a pair of 15’s today, 355lb on the bar, more stable than expected, will try heavier dumbbells next time.

You could buy some plates or hit up a home Depot and buy some chains

I could but as you can see on the picture, it’s no more room on the bar since the weights they have is those thick rubber plates, I would have to buy a whole new set up with weights if that’s the case.

But, zip tie the dumbbells worked surprisingly well, I have 25’s and 40’s at home that I will bring next time, that should add weight to 375 and 405 which will keep me happy until the regular gym opens up.
