Formating Help:

Allright, I just need a simple guide on how to scrub the computer clean then instal the operating system.

Looking at the thousands of formating stuff, there all different in someway with differant commands and bopot up procedures.

All I need is a pure simple job.

Format the only drive.
Install XP.

I don't want any aded commands that arer not needed, format.com, etc.

What about boot up disks and all that crap?
 
Your XP CD should be bootable, just make sure that in your boot up sequence the cd drive comes before the hard drive. Should already be but you may want to make sure.

Sequence could be:

1) Floppy
2) CD Rom
3) HD

Also when installing XP it should give you the option to format your HD before installing, so you wouldn't really have to worry bout a thing.

Hey banana attempt to be somewhat helpful.. some of us get alittle stressed out when things are no going right :D
 
Just restart the computer in DOS
then (if C is your drive)
type
format C: (or format C: /q)
then it asks you if you really wanna format. (yes)

then you can restart with the cd in the drive, and it should autorun,
if not
then at the prompt (C:\> )
type the CD drive (probabaly D)
so type D:\
and the prompt should change to ( D:\> )
then it should be setup, or start, or install i forget the file name.

if you need to search it, once you are in D, type 'dir'
that shows all of the files in that drive,
if it is too many
type 'dir /p' so that it lets you hit a key to scroll the files
anyway, just find the file you are looking for (easy, cause it will be a name like install or setup)
just type that name, and it should start....

If you are using XP, this is the easiest way to go. You could do as Havok said and use DOS, but why bother? Just boot from the CD and do it that way, much easier for novices and/or laymen IMO.
