Finasteride?

Hi. I'm 19.
I'm not sure this is the right forum for this question but you guys seem to be knowledgeable about steroids and whatnot.
The thing is, I'm balding and want to start finasteride. I am well-informed of side effects and it's not my main concern.
Finasteride is a DHT blocker, it's a well known fact. Also what is well know is that DHT is a very important hormone during sexual maturation of a man.
So can it mess up stuff? Can I end up with stunned secondary sexual characteristics? Penis is my main bother :D

Well as far as I know, finesteride is safe as long as it is used t he right way and by this I mean that you have to use the right dose. The right dose I think is 20mg/day divided in 3-4 doses. There's a small chance that you might suffer from one or two of its side effects but as I have said, it's just a SMALL chance.

Get dht shampoo instead, or just rock the buzz cut. If you're gonna use something with a high risk for side effects like finasteride than you should consult your doctor.

Side effects are super rare, occurrence rate is put on 2-3%. The dose is 1mg/day.
My young age is what bothers me..

You may be able to also use a progesterone cream. Progesterone helps to block the conversion of Test into DHT. Keep in mind that DHT is extremely anabolic, but it can also be responsible for hair loss and prostate issues. On a side note progesterone can also work as an aromatase inhibitor, lowering estrogen. DHT is in fact related to estrogen despite its name suggesting otherwise. As another natural option I believe Maca (2-3 tablespoons daily) can be used to create both Test and progesterone in the body. As a topical solution look into using polysorbate-80 which will neutralize DHT in the scalp.

The sooner the better if you are hoping to keep from going bald. I don't think it would cause problems at your age, and side effects are rare. But talk to a dermatologist to be sure.

I took it for a while with no problems. But I eventually gave up and just started shaving my head.

Sure side affects are rare but I wouldn't take tha chance. Do some google search and decide yourself.
I can tell you that I'm still suffering from rare side affect I got from ssri med , 6 years ago. Who would believe that I will react to it this way.

Anyway I'm also having hair problems , but there is no way in the world I will mess with finasterid.

Technically finasteride can cause a mild increase in testosterone levels because less of it is being converted into DHT. And I would think any possible side effects would be temporary.

Again, prevention is better than cure when it comes to baldness. Easier to prevent hair loss than to grow new hair. Go see a dermatologist.

Thanks for replies.
Now I have a thin crown and that's it. Hairline is fine.
Lol now it seems that it's kinda too late for fin. I am, obviously, having a buzzcut now and it does not hurt my looks at all. But duh I still have some hair.

Also what is your input on the possible neurological damage that might be caused by finasteride? I'm describing long term use, obviously.
I've read that fin messes with progesterone and allopregnanolone and it can affect myelination negatively.

I've never heard of that. But considering the drug has been used for enlarged prostate for years. I think if there were serious safety problems we'd know about it by now.

Finasteride should be fairly effective for thinning at the back/crown. The receding hairline is usually a little more resistant to finasteride and other treatments.
