Feet hurting before feeling the calf burn

I have been training for about a year just to be healthy and stay toned but recently, I have changed my goals and want to build a few extra kilos mainly on my legs as I have the genetics half chicken half man (thanks dad). I am pushing the quad hammy and arse side of things, but my calves arnt joining the party. I seem to get aching arches in my feet before I feel the burn in all my exercises. Has anyone had the same problem or has anyone got a solution???

Sounds like it could be a mobility issue. Stretch the crap out of them pre, during and post training.

Good luck

I tend toward painful arches also. You really need to stretch them every day. Also look into trigger point therapy stuff. Basically some rollers and balls to roll your arches over. Keeps them loose if you use them regularly. I also picked up some
Orthotics and those really seemed to help mine quite a bit.

Check your footwear. There was also an interesting article in the journal of strength and conditioning about strengthening foot muscles using simple activation exercises. I can email it to you if you'd like.

I wouldn't mind seeing that actually.

Thanks heaps fellas. I don't think it is my footwear, as I have had 3 sets of shoes during this problem. I will try and stretch the **** out of my feet everyday and see how that goes. It is mainly my right foot, and I have broken it twice when I was a grommet so it does roll in a bit. I will have a look on the net for some info on it. Thanks again boys. Cheers.

Hey guys. Took your advise with the streching with the ball and massage to loosen my arches and it helped heaps. I also got some inner soul arches and that made a difference. Thanks again boys. Cheers.
