I asked some guy on another website the same question. He replied "LOL, they both suck, Nog is a punching bag, didn't he almost lose his UFC debut, LOL." I told him Noguiera was the current UFC HW champ, he said he didn't believe me and that I was full of sh*t. Then he said "your boy Fedor is a joke too, he got suplexed by Randleman and Randleman couldn't even take Chuck down." He wasn't a troll either, just an idiot, I told him a few facts as to why he was wrong and called him ignorant. People told me I was a loser and that it's his opinion, if I don't like it I can shut up. This might be the same guy, very similar writing style.

Bottom line is IF FEDOR IS SUCH A GREAT FIGHTER as you say....I'd like to know why he is AVOIDING the challenges of accomplished UFC fighters such as Couture and Lidell. When you are a great fighter...you love to fight the best...you don't AVOID them!!!!!!!! MAYBE FEDOR IS A GREAT FIGHTER...then he should shut up & fight his challengers not RUN FROM THEM!! Of course he looks good with his current wins, but until he goes up against his challengers we will never know for sure!! Look at Sherk!!! When challenged by Penn.....what did he do??? He manned up & accepted the challenge. For God's Sake....how old is Couture now anywanys???? 43-45? the Great Fighter Fedor is AVOIDING the old man who is also alot smaller & lighter if I am not mistaken. Let's see the Best Fight the best then we can talk! Until then....I see him as one who cherry picks his fights because he is afraid he'll lose.

I'm just a casual watcher of MMA, but even I know that Fedor hasn't been able to fight Couture due to contractual hoopla.
 
The best HW fighters aren't EVEN IN THE UFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many of the TOP 10 are in the UFC??????????????????????????????? They aren't even resigning AA from the looks of it, Sylvia and Couture are gone, ...........................................

Fedor and Couture are not much different in size????? Couture is 1-2'' taller and they weigh WITHIN 5 LB OF EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's fighting Sylvia who's around 5th in the top 10 so he's taking on top competition soon.

FACT-Rampage Jackson said many fights were fixed when he was exclusively with Pride! And if a someone was to throw a fight it would be with an armbar or leg submission!

Your argument is weak as hell. It's based on hearsay from some questionable sources. Please post the rampage interview. I'm pretty sure he said that there were quick standups for certain fighters (he was talking about Wand) and maybe something about questionable decisions. Regardless, Rampage has said some nonsensical sh1t lately (although I like him a lot) like calling Wand the "Chump Murderer" when he got brutalized by him twice.

Chuck has talked more than he should lately as well.

The most obvious flaw of all is that Fedor would be the least likely fighter for them to push as a star (and fix fights for) since he's chubby and somewhat shy in front of a crowd.

Alright I'll bite for a second.

Who cares what Chuck says? He says Fedor is overrated so he is? Good point, lucci.

Unless Rampage said that some of Fedor's fights were staged than it means nothing, even if he did say that it still wouldn't make it so. When Rampage is commentating with Bas he says "Man, Fedor is a bad dude, I'm glad I don't have to fight that guy", I think that speaks for what he thinks of Fedor.

You saying he's running is based off of nothing. Fedor has serious ethics and he didn't like the fact that Dana was trying to "own" him. Your opinion is that he is running, but what would make you think Fedor ever runs. He fought Noguiera 2.5 times, Nog was/is ranked the #2 HW in the world. Didn't seem to be running then. He fought CC when he was ranked 2 or 3. Herring was probably the #1 contender when Fedor dismantled him. People thought he would have trouble with wrestlers, so he handled Coleman and Randleman. So explain to me what makes you think Fedor would run from a 45 year old guy that you described as "old and much smaller than Fedor?" Do you really think Fedor is some sort of egomaniac that doesn't want to lose. Nothing could be further from the truth, the guy is humble as could be.

We all agree he hasn't fought anyone that dangerous for awhile. This thread ask "Is Fedor the greatest MMA fighter of all time?" If it's not Fedor tell me who it is. Also, who are these legends you speak of? Would you be content if he beat Couture? I doubt it. Who else did you have in mind. I'd like to see him face Couture, Barnett, etc. Sylvia is a nice start, he is ranked #5 in the world, but I guess Fedor is just ducking again because Sylvia is one dimensional.

If anyone doubt that Fedor is the best fighter in the history of MMA, then why is it that all of his peers say he is the best?

Damn, only 61% think Fedor is the greatest of all time, yet not one decent argument to prove any other fighter is the GOAT.
 
Anderson and Fedor just always make the right choices in a split second. It's amazing how mentally and instinctually able they are. You could put them tied for #1 P4P, but I think Fedor has had a better career making him the GOAT.

**I will still continue to diss Fedor if the love gets out of control (Alex), but he's the man**

Well put, in the first paragraph, I agree.

It's already way out of control. I have random family members sending me congragulatory e-mails about Fedor's victory. They're old and barely know what MMA is, but they're well aware of my worship.

I just want to know where all of the sh!t talkers went. It is Fedor's speed and reflexes that make him such a dynamic fighter and his power is very underrated. Sylvia said that he has never been hit so hard.

Yup, I can't believe that people say Fedor doesn't have power, that is fvcking hilarious. I agree about the speed, reflexes and power. Pat Miletitch had a good point too, he said that Fedor's lack of fear/concentration is what seperates him. That is very true, and something that Anderson Silva possesses.

I was sad not to hear Enae Volare Mezzo, but whatever.

Yeah, I'm glad I didn't have to cut myself ither. A little pissed about no Aleks and no Era, but wow, what a performance by Fedor. I actually gained a lot of respect for Sylvia with his pre and post fight interviews.
 
Somehow, as with Fedor not much is underrated, but people underestimate his reflex speed and punching power. He destroyed Sylvia almost effortlessly; that's very impressive, IMO.

I would have loved to see Fedor on the National Geographic special which featured Tito, Randy, and Bas.

Greg Gerardo? He's the guy that said "Flavor Flav looks like a skeleton in electrical tape", right? I remember him being kind of hit or miss but had some funny sh1t at times. I saw one of his shows on comedy central and it was pretty funny. Don't compliment CEMO like that. Go with Leguizemo or something.

Yeah, I fvcked that up. I think Gerardo is one of the funniest dudes on the planet. I was being extremely sarcastic saying the B-squad was on his level, but it came across wrong and made no sense. Leguizamo would've been very appropriate.
 
back in the day it was pretty much an entirely different sport. During the dark ages(tournamnet UFC) Royce was the best followed by Don Frye in my opinion. Then there was the Rennisance when Zuffa first took over. Matt Hughs definetely dominated like nothing the sport had seen. So did Tito. Now that we are in the Golden Ages, the sport has passed by all the names I have mentioned. Of course Fedor is better than these guys. He is further down the time line of evolution. But to say who the best of all time is, is really impossible.

taking the time periods into consideration, I would say that Matt Hughes was the best of all time during his prime.

Your argument doesn't hold any weight, imo. We're looking at entire careers, and currently Fedor has by far had the best career. He could lose his next 2 fights and probably still be the best all time. Hughes isn't even close, even before he began his downfall, losing against BJ, Alves, GSP twice, and possibly Charuto, he had already lost to Hallman twice and Pele. Gracie and Frye, come on man, thats laughable.

The only person worth mentioning in the GOAT discussion is Anderson Silva, and although he's been on a roll he has 4 losses, including Takase and Chonan. The greatest current p4p is debatable, between Anderson and Fedor, but the GOAT is clearly Fedor.

In terms of career GOAT, I would place Wanderlei and Bas (I know, I know - I fvcking love Pancrase) above Anderson. Anderson is the debatable P4P as you said, but I don't think he should be mentioned in terms of the GOAT just yet.

Of course, once GSP wins a few more he'll be the GOAT! :stick: :think:

Man, I love Wandy, but even Rodja knows that he is a bit further down on the list, maybe 5-7. Big Nog is higher up on the list than Wand, imo, as well as a few other guys. I love Bas as well, but Pancrase was not full MMA and Bas got handled by the Shamrock's, mainly Ken, in Pancrase.

As far as GSP goes, I think his mentality and chin will be his downfall. He has as good a chance as any at dethroning Fedor, but I don't think it will happen. Fitch is fvcked though, as well as anyone else in the WW division. Alves will be GSP's greatest test, but he'll get schooled.

Anderson is just on another level right now. I can't see him sustaining this level forever, his mojo is in full effect.

Once Fedor gets that many fights under his belt i would say we could start talking about greatest of all time. hell a lot of people were calling Mike Tyson the greatest of all time early in his career and we all know how that ended up. I am not saying Fedor isnt great but it is simply just too early to say he is the greastest of all time with out any doubt. He has not defended his titles quite like Hughes did. give it a little more time and if Fedor keeps it up i will most certainly concede that he is the greatest of all tme

The only issue is the majority of his first twenty fights were hardly the calibre of fighter by which you measure greatness. Until recently, Fedor fought and beat the highest calibre of opponents in the world. You cannot say that for Matt Hughes; and when you can say that, they beat him.

I would say he is in the top 5-7 though, as much as it pains me.

alright, name one guy during the dark ages that was better than Gracie. and after gracie in the slightly less dark ages Frye was the very first fighter to be a true mixed martial artist. they were the best in their time periods, not of all time.

this is a valid point and yes hughes is a ****. i never really liked him. however, at the time that he fought these guys they were relatively substantial fighters. this was before the days of GSP. These were the top contenders. just because they have fallen to the wayside doesnt mean they were bad for their time. Hughes dominated his time period is all i am saying. Fedor's first fight was in 2000 I believe. the sport had developed greatly in that time. so of course some of the names he fought will still be pertinant(sp).

That's true, but my point is that while fighters themselves may not have relativity, there is relativity in terms of the strength of talent pools. For example, Tiger Woods will win more majors than Jack Nicklaus, but Nicklaus had to play against Palmer, Player, Faldo, and several greats of the game. Similarly, Hughes did not fight against relative greats; not at all. When he was faced with higher competition he lost. Fedor is fighting during a time of higher calibre opponents, and fought in an organization with the world's best HWs.

Like I said, Hughes is up there, but his name shouldn't even be put forward as the GOAT.
 
Anderson Silva weighs naturally 215-220.

Fedor is probably around 230-235.


Fedor fights 300 LB guys.

Anderson fights 185 LB guys.

if i could take your woods/nicklaus analogy in a different direction for a second. for example Bonds/Ruth. Obviously if Bonds went back in time to the Babes day he would kick the **** out of the Babe. But the Babe is still generally classifiied as the greatest of all time because he was so far ahead of the competition. name another 10 other players from the Ruth era. Because you cant do that doesn't mean they sucked. The babe was just that much better. now if you can apply that to Hughes. he was so far ahead of everybody else that during his time period nobody else meant ****. He beat the competition. which is what fedor, silva and GSP are doing now. However i will most definetely change my opinion on this matter probably within a few years but up until this point in time, i think in the very short history of mma, that Hughes has been the best. once these guys like fedor, silva and GSP get their records up their and their careers lenghten i will certainly change my stance.

at any rate, i believe your analysis of fedor being the best of all time will turn out to be true. i guess, i will agree to kinda disagree.

That analogy doesn't quite work. With Ruth you're talking 80 years ago. With Hughes you're talking 4 years ago.

Hughes' legacy has been tarnished, and he was exposed as 1 dimensional. He wasn't a true MMA fighter that was well rounded because he never had striking, and in the begining, not a great ground game.

Hughes is not even 3 years older than Fedor. Hughes problem has been his work ethic and he has not trained to keep up with the sport. He is pretty much the same fighter now that he was back in '03, but his main competition have evolved by leaps and bounds since then. Hughes' prime could be said lasted from '02-'06, but you could say that Fedor's prime started in late '02/early '03 (depending if you count the Herring or Nog fight) and it still has not ended. Hughes has been beaten decisively on several occasions and to some middle-tier competition as well.

If Dana wants to keep giving anderson the p4p he should make a catch fight of 220 happen for anderson and fedor(I'm sure he could get down to 220 if he tried) and all would be revealed.
