How did we end up deciding to go along with this?

I mean, with the Texas Tiger  in the Oval Office how is this **** allowed to happen. Bush is all about America doing its own thing :whip: , snubbin the U.N., rounding up a handpicked posse and reppin for the Red White and Blue across the globe, no way he will sign this E.U. cocksucking legislation............. right  ?

I know Hillary Clinton's a big supporter of this. Plus I'm sure all the big pharmaceutical companies are pushing for it to cause their the ones that will profit from it.

Eh...the FDA is it's own entity.

I "hope" that Bush, being a fitness-minded president, wouldn't go so far as to sign this bill. I mean, I'm SURE he takes vitamins.

Then again, i don't know how this works. I don't know if he even has to give the go on this issue. The FDA can do MANY THINGS without the consent of congress and the pres.

I HATE HILLARY CLINTON!

I swear, if I have to buy vitamins from researchchemical sites or from gear sites, I'm going to go insane! do you know how many businesses this will "KILL".????

I learned from the ph ban, f*ck it, I'm stockin up

If anybody needs some vitamin C down the line, you know who to contact.......and it'll be the REAL DEAL **** too

Not only that, we'll all be friggin criminals for buying 'Mega-Mens' without a script... :frustrate

Hilary Clinton or Bush, the result will be the same. It amazes me that people are still amazed that beauracrats will do anything and everything, no matter how ridiculous, to increase their power. If this is something that needs Bush's approval, you can bet he'll sign it. A couple good articles.

You're right, but I still hate Hillary Clinton ;)

I would "hope" Bush wouldn't make vitamins prescription only. But, it's entirely possible. Politicians are the scum of the earth.

Where the hell is Arnold on this?

After reading that I'm oddly reminded of "Animal Farm"

'All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.'

Well, it's going to happen if the people don't do anything. It happened in the E.U. Why not the US? We're marching down socialist isle already...

tHE LETTERS DON'T DO A DAMN THING. tHEY DO AS THEY PLEASE.
That depends on whether or not it needs a politician's approval. If enough people send letters to their representatives and make a stink, it could stop this. It's not likely, but it would. But in general those serving in appointed positions in government will, as you say, do as they damn well please.

This is just my thinking. Because it would affect major companies such as GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc. It will be more difficult to push something to this magnitude through. The cost of healthcare is going up and there are a lot of people particulary the eldery who are already raising hell about the costs. These are the people who are ordering medication from Canada and other foriegn countries because of the high prices here. I think it would piss these same people off because many of them have chosen alternative ways such as supplementation to medicate themselves.

This issue has more weight than ph's did b/c ph's had a negative conotation to start with. Ph's didn't have a huge audience as do the dietary (preventive health) supplement segment of the industry.

Thank dipshit liberals for this plan. The Durbin Bill was in discussion last year but had a lot of objectors. There's a lot of money to be made with vitamins. I already e-mailed my senators but these are the same assholes who assisted in making the PH bill (Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin) so I have little faith that they'll help out. I just got the standard "Thank you" e-mails from them thats probably automated response.

Better stock up though but I have faith that this really doesn't have a big chance to pass. They tried this out a decade ago and got defeated. Although with socialists like Barbara Boxer and John Kerry, a ban seems much more likely than 10 years ago.

Edit: One of the biggest objectors right now to the Dumbass bill is Orrin Hatch, a Republican senator from Utah and I think a few others.

Due to my job I have chatted with senators and congressman, and trust me they could care less what you write.

Hooray for liberal compassion. Everyone gets equally less freedom. Now we can look and play like this stud.

"For some years, the pharmaceutical lobby has been successful in having the FDA tighten the screw on the nutritional products that keep many people from ill-health, whilst approving dangerous, health-damaging drugs as “treatments (e.g. In American hospitals alone, 106,000 people die every year due to drug side-effects, whilst precisely none die from nutrition-related side-effects.)

In fact, Doctors are now the leading cause of death in the USA – causing more deaths than cancer or heart disease, and costing over 700 lives every day."

If this bill goes through, the pharm. companies and doctors will have enormous amounts of lawsuits against them. Many of them will file for bankruptcy within the first 2 years this bill gets passed. Everyone who takes pharm. meds will be walking test specimens. b/c of the lack of evidence whether or not the drug is safe to take.

Just think of how many jobs will be lost over this.

Don't expect this to go over easy.

To make matters worse, completely off topic also, I spoke with a buddy of mine in the Navy and he tells me a "new" draft should begin this summer because of the shortage in the military.

You know that it won't because unlike the PH/PS business, the use of vitamins and other supplements is much more widespread, and you know companies like Centrum and NOW Foods, to name a few, won't be bent over by the FDA without a fight. This is cutting into their area and their people like you said and this will be an uphill battle for the FDA...and for that I'm glad, I can't stand those pricks.

Don't worry, its not going to get passed at any level of Congress. Vitamins are big business for all. Think about how pissed Walmart, GNC, Target, Grocery chains, Vitamin Shoppe, etc. will be. Walmart alone is worth hundreds of billions and its assured that they'll stop this.

Its just a fantasy bill, much like the draft bill last year, also started by Democrats. Democrats suck.

here's the kicker on this:
The US is *bound by treaty* to co-operate...
and if you were ever lucky enough to have a civics class, then you know that treaty obligations trump our domestic legislative process.

THIS law may not make it - but ONE will...
because we don't run the country.

If this is true then I ask a general question "WTF are they doing who's positions are they voting for? Just the ones that keep there fat ass wallets fatter?" Man I can't wait till I can get involved in some politics

I will seriously hope we get to whip bastard ass politicians to death if this crap happens in the USA. My mom has done a lot better with natural supplements treating her gout than when she was on meds. I hope some politicans still have balls man.

I've dealt with them too, damn near from birth because of my father's job in politics. They do care what you write when it's got enough weight behind it. Letters aren't enough in and of themselves, but they are a part of the equation. If they think something they're going to do will piss off a lot of voters, they'll generall back off of it or try and be more 'reasonable.'

Basically that's about it. As long as they can get reellected, why should they care about anything else?

yeah, I firmly believe the UN has been perverted and those now on the inside are using it as a tool for global, socialist, domination. (there's no other word for it, it's dominatin. they want complete control. Imagine that...."king of the world" )

We are not the majority of voters, therefore the letters mean nothing as I said.

I fail to see how you can blame this on liberals. Both houses of congress are controlled by the Republicans, the Prez is a Republican, the FDA works for the Prez...

It can only become a law if the Republicans vote for it in both houses and Bush signs it into law.

But the New Conservative Republicans have never been big on real freedom, despite all of Bush's blather about spreading Freedom throughout the world. They are all too happy to resrict your access to things THEY don't like, (say, Marijuana and AAS, or "naughty words" on Howard Stern) while allowing Tobacco, whiskey, etc.

Bush wouldn't know "Freedom" if it kicked him in the ass...

Us juiceheads? No, you're right, we're not a majority. However the pool of people who use vitamins extends well beyond just us, and includes the elderly as a big chunk of it. That's what might make it a factor.
