Yes It was goofy but followed the story more. Jason goes to hell was just off, that Jason was just some corpse taken over by some worm like demon and can switch bodies etc..

I like the one in Manhattan i believe the last of the original series where he uppercuts that boxers head of and flies thru the air into the dumpster. It all took place on a boat then in manhattan i think.

I also like the one with the telekinetic girl that movies stuff with her mind.

Haha Jason Take Manhattan!! The girl with the powers is "The New Blood"

Silent Hill was a pretty good one. Most of the REALLY good horror movies are remakes of Japanese films. Ringu(The Ring), Ju-On(The Grudge), etc were Japanese and the originals are much better than the US versions. Ringu, particularly, was much better than The Ring.

I don't know how many people have seen it, but Audition is one of the most ****ed up movies that I have ever seen. Highly recommended.

Is that the one where the sadistic chick tortures that guy?

I've been seeing the ad for Saw III. The 1st one was AMAZING! No one can tell me that they saw the twist at the end coming! I was like..."NO F'ING WAY!"....I won't be the spoiler though.....if you haven't seen it...go rent it...TONIGHT! I bought that sucker the day it came out.

Saw II was ok too. It is rare that ANY sequal is as good or better than the original. (i.e. Godfather II, Empire Strikes Back) I hope they turned it up a notch for Saw III....we shall see.

OK...This will sound whimpy and I don't even know if it qualifies as a "horror" movie but the movie "Cujo" scared me to death...Of course I was like...12...

Dude! No shame at all! I didn't go near a dog for like ..months!

Session 9 was a good, newer flick. Great atmosphere and good on the creep factor as opposed to the BOO! scares common in today's movies.

I'm surprised you don't have 'Tremors' in your list.

Critters is a lot of fun.
I haven't seen Gremlins in a long long time.

Those fast zombies in the Dawn of the Dead remake are great!

Check out 'Trancers' as well. It's a kick!

-TT
Trancers is awesome, I use to love just about every Full Moon movie. Puppet Master series is classic, Blade and Torch are just cool looking. I didn't catch Tremors until some time in high school, so I didn't think it was all that scary, just had some classic one liners,

" Goddam prairie dog hole....... those sunsa*****es."

"Stay on those residual bolders."

"Whoooo!!! Can't believe we said no to free beer. We faced the demon and did not bid. Holy shi$t, hallalua, praised the Lord."

I was wondering on the Descent, EESCHman how was it?
Very good. My brother recommended it to me before it came out in the U.S. so I "found" it and watched it with friends. We were all very impressed with it. Good story, and some good scares.

Some more movies I liked (after reading some posts)

Dawn of the Dead (new version) - really surprised how good this one was. Always like the original, but it was kinda "cheesy." This one was more serious, in a good way.
I likes zombie movies!

Didn't like Saw 2...Loved Saw 1. I guess 'cause it didn't have many puzzles/riddles as the first one. Hopefully the 3rd will be better.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (new version) - I actually liked this better than the original. Maybe it was the production quality...

Resident Evil 1 - This was a cool movie. Liked the game, and really liked the movie.

I had some of those as sound events on my last computer. Drove my ex up a wall. Wish I still had the wav files.

I saw the exclusive preview of Saw III on the Spike Channel's Scream Awards last night! (Right after Tito Ortiz Kicked Shamrock's ass once again!) That **** was f'd up! I am so there when it hits the theater! Anyone else see it?

No one care for Event Horizon? That was the only movie that really got to me.

It was fun but in the end not a good movie in my opinion. More like enjoyable junk food. Basically Hellraiser in space but without the originality or resonance.

I like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, also The Shining. Newer horror movies are not even scary, they just try to find different ways of killing people. I did like Saw 1 though. The others are just crap.

There are good ones out there. The good stuff is coming out of Japan. Relatively unknown mythology over there to most westerners, makes it new and interesting. Independent Japanese and take offs on their stuff tend to be better than the standard batch of tongue in cheek American splatter flicks. Take The Grudge. Good overall creepy movie. Bad karma in a place, can't get rid of it, just kills everyone who comes close to it. Creepy kid and his cat and mother. Fairl well done.

Also check out the original Ring, Ringu. If only for the scene where she crawls out of the TV which was done much better in the original I feel.

Child's Play... I saw previews for that d@mn movie when I was a kid and after that, I was terrified of those "My Buddy" dolls. The first one was the best because you never saw him moving for the first half of the movie. All we saw was an inanimate doll with a grin on its face. And when he came alive when threatened to be burned... aw man! I don't think I slept for a week!!!!

But, I got over it, though... *cough*

HL

I know a girl who is still scared ****less of that doll. But the problem is it's hard to be scared on if after the whole series goes downhill into to camp self satire BS that seems to have engulfed the entire mainstream of American horror. At least the Splat Pack, the people responsible for flicks like Hostel, aren't going for the humor more than the horror. This is the only promising trend in American horror right now, the outright brutal films that are coming out. And even that originated in Japan I believe.

Agreed. I liked it more when you didn't know what the bad guy was. It is human nature to fear the most of what we do not know. If you cant see it, it's up to your own mind to figure out what is scary, amorphous thing was. Now THAT was horror.

HL

It takes skill. As a (mostly failed and despondent) horror writer myself, I take issue with the literary world and hollywood's camp, tongue in cheek bs. I guarantee you the first stories told were fantastic stories, probably ghostly in nature, and porno. Despite the proliferation of both, it's hard to do either very well. Writing a successful ghost story is hard as hell. Truly disturbing people, not just getting a Boo! scare but really shaking them, is hard. It's worth it, but it's hard. Good horror movies and stories are rare finds relative to the amount of crap out there, as are good porn movies.

The Shining
Event Horizon
Hellraiser
Saw (borrows some from a decent low budget film, The Cube)
original Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Seven

The Lost Highway, although, not really a horror movie had some truly creepy scenes in it, basically every scene with Robert Blake. David Lynch is a master at creating suspense and terror. The homeless guy scene in Mullholland Drive had me jumping as well. Anyway, Lost Highway ain't for everyone.

I find it mildly amusing that you folks are afraid of anything with biceps that large. I mean, really. Rivet, you could just tear a vicious dog in half. I'm the only one around here who's allowed to be scared of things, since I haven't finished growing yet.

But yeah, Horror Movies.

The Shining
Christine(this one messed with my head bigtime)
Flesh for the Beast
Ring(Japanese version, not the lolworthy American remake)
Meatball Machine
Salem's Lot

I will have to remember that next time I have to kick a pitbull off of a me :p

I see you like Steven King movies. I haven't seen Flesh for the Beast, Meatball Machine or Ringu. (that means feel free to give a quick run down of Flesh and Meatball  )

When I bulk up, I'll go punt a Rottweiler into outer space just for you, Rivet. :icon_lol:

Meatball Machine is like a Judas Priest album come to life. It is a Cyberpunk Horror that tells the story of Aliens landing on Earth. But not just any aliens. Oh no. These aliens infect humans like parasites and turn them into bleeding, screaming, biomechanical, fleshy piles of weaponry, bristling with chainsaws, machineguns, and all that good stuff. Then they pit these monstrosities against each other. No one was saved. Not even the children...

As for what happens? You'll just have to watch it. :head:

Flesh for the Beast? It's campy b-movie stuff, but fun stuff. Six parapsychologists investigate a reputed haunted mansion and are set upon by three flesh-eating succubus ladies under the control of the sinister warlock owner bent on finding a mysterious amulet to give himself more power. It doesn't make much sense, but it's really quite funny(and sometimes scary)at times.

Most disturbing = Exorcist
Best Recent Film = Descent
Best Werewolf = American Werewolf in london
Best Recent Werewolf = Blood Moon, Ginger Snaps
B-Movie Gold = Evil Dead, Troll 2, Blood Feast
Best Slasher = Friday the 13th 4

...List could literally go on forever, so much awesomeness

Anyone like Hellraiser? I think I'm a masochist, because I wish I had that puzzle box so those demons can come and hang me.

love hellraiser, Doug Bradley will be at the horror convention in Burbank this May, get in on that action! Havent been much of a fan of Clive Barker's other movies, but when you place the bar so high with hellraiser where are you going to go?

I love Doug Bradley's voice pitch shifted down.

Just to let you guys know, I rented "The Grudge 2" on Wednesday and it really suck. Actually, I thought a lot of the scenes that were suposed to be scarey, rather funny!. The fist one wasn't bad, but this second one, not worth the time I spent on it...

Same thing happened with Ring 2 it seems. Odd. I hope the Japanese stuff keeps flowing though, some of it is super good.

You mean it was worse than the first Ring? Gosh, and I thought that one sucked.

What other horror movies do you like? seeing as you probably have similar taste as me. I will be watching "The Changeling" soon. 1980 ghost movie sounds good.
