Explain to me why 9 out of 10 people do not care about being fit or how fit you are?

Ive found this to be true amoungst several friends and coworkers. The same thing theory can be applied about men and women when it comes to esthetics of a person's face , income etc... some people will deny their attraction to certain people simply out of insecurities. That is human nature though, a protective reaction although counterproductive....

In most cases how a person treats their body is a direct reflection of their self esteem, motivation, self control, etc. Being healthy doesn't necessarily mean that people have to be 2% bodyfat, but being healthy in body and mind is very attractive. Whenever people strive for perfection (careers, body physique , etc ) they most likely have some form of narcissism and finding happiness is hard when there is that much effort going into whatever goals they are pursuing due to poor life balance. Most people struggle with ambition, motivation, etc hence that is why there is a a larger population of people in lower socioeconomic classes vs those in the higher income earning brackets. It shouldn't be a surprise that 9 out of 10 people aren't fit or don't care to be. Not all people care or are motivated enough to achieve things in life.
 
Moat people have this stereotype that people that are fit are so obsessed that they make no time for the fun things on life... I was actually reading a study on this too... perhaps the same but women revealed they viewed the "bodybuilder" type or physique athlete as someone who can't make time for anything else and can't enjoy things like drinks, going out to eat with dates at restaurants and such. Personally, I'm no bodybuilder but work hard to get lean and fitness is NOT my whole, I eat fun food, play video games, go out to the club or bar... like it's all stereotypes like everything else in my opinion. There are those bro science people who are young and uneducated that obsess over this ****... unless it's your career, ease up folks lol

It takes more effort to be physically fit than it does to be fat and it's not a prerequisite for long term survival anymore. We have the medical advances to live to a ripe old age regardless of how fit we are and that's good enough for most though not necessarily preferable. I've yet to meet someone out of shape who wouldn't prefer to have a fit looking physique if they could do so by a snap of the fingers. It's more likely for someone in shape to be motivated in other aspects of their lives but obviously not a rule. It can also be hard to understand someones disdain for something you may love to do.

For example I have a good friend who was extremely hard working in school. A top student, scholar and finished up with a PHD in history in record time. I was often in awe of how much time he could spend immersed in study. It was a state of flow for him. The whole world could be falling apart around him and he'd not lose focus. Thing is he had a very slight stature and he hated his appearance. He didn't want to look like the prototypical nerd the rest of his life and so he asked me to train him while he was studying at UNI. I lived about an hour from his uni at the time but made the effort to meet him at the uni gym each week for training. He told me that he didn't want to get too huge, just to look fit with a little more muscle. I thought it would be extremely easy to whip him into shape if he followed a set routine and diet plan as stringently and with the same interest as he pursued his studies. Could his drive even lead him to the stage someday I wondered? I was very wrong! He hated everything fitness. Eating clean was too much of a chore and training made him sore. It made his heart race, it took too much time out of his day (30 minutes). He started to come up with excuses to skip the gym and in the end he gave it up altogether. 10 years later and he still hasn't made that change yet he's still not happy with the way he looks.
 
Plenty of people that aren’t “fit” by your definition live long and joyous lives. As you get older, you will realize that life isn’t fulfilling if you have an inward focus and your main obsession is “abs.” Everyone has a different lens of success. Obesity is something that should be attacked with a lot of focus mentally and physically, but if 80% of your energy goes into having sub 8% bf, then that is really a pretty shallow waste of human empathy, love, and passion. But if it brings you joy and makes you treat others better, go get that 8% bf!

Yeah, I'm just giving the OP crap. I commute to Chi 2-3 days for work each week, then other days in Rockford office.

being 8% bodyfat would make me be the opposite.. my husband despises when im cutting.Its like being hangry... but for months.

Well that's the other thing. Living in Illinois he should know that Cook County, if not Chicago alone, is the sole reason why Illinois is a blue state. I grew up in Chicago and went to undergrad in central Illinois (Peoria). Vastly different political views and only a few hours apart.

Peoria, you say? I grew up a little farther south and was bused up to the shyt hole that is Pekin. Last graduating class of Chinks, if you remember back that far.

I think Pekin was where the ethanol plant was that gave Peoria it's "wonderful" scent lol. I was there from around 1994 to 98ish.
