Ephedrine and Drug Testing

I have a drug test coming up for my i-banking job after graduation and I was curious about in what capacity could ephedrine show up in a drug test. I know ephedrine hcl is techincally not illegal so I am not worried about that, but what I am worried about is if it can show up in a drug test and be interpreted as something else. Thanks for any insight you guys can offer.

It can give a false positive for amphetamine ... and this is where it gets complicated because not everyone does the expensive GC/MS follow up test to really determine the compound. If they do - it won't be a problem.

But your problem is cured completely if you just tell them you take Bronkaid OTC for what it's supposed to be used for.

here lies the problem, most places arent going to do a gc/ms... maybe at probation... jobs, no.

thanks for the input guys, yea I was worried about it showing a false positive for amphetamines, but I was also considering just letting the drug tester know that I am currently taking ephedrine.

I believe I stated that not everyone does the expensive gc/ms in my post. But you're wrong in saying that NO jobs will screen that way. Some do - I took one for the federal government two years ago and was briefed that the agency I took it for does exactly that.

But again - he's fine as long as he says he's using bronkaid.

i should have said MOST jobs wont use gc/ms as it is very expensive...

im on drug court, im tested 3x a week.... they dont even use gc/ms becuase its too expensive (and thats state money so they could care less) ... so it is my responsibility to know exactly what can/will cause false positives... if i get a false positive, i go to jail.

if i were the op, i would hold off on the bronkaid or ephedra just to be safe, its simply NOT worth the trouble...

What is a false positive? It is a test result that is returned when a substance tests positive for another compound. It is a case of mistaken identity. For example if you eat a couple poppy seed cakes before testing, you can get a positive result for opiates.

hah no way, banks are cheap asses! theyll likely use the cheapest possible. i worked i.t. for banks a few years, never would replace anything unless it caught fire in summertime (it could be used as a heater in winter, of course)

I know this is a older thread, but i took a drug test thurs and needless to say my piss looked funky. I dont do drugs but I took my B complex, Cod liver oil and Milk thistle that morning without thinking...now im scared Ill get a false positive and not get the job, Will my test come back clean or what do yall think?
