I do try to call things as I see it, usually from the perspective of what is "least worse" rather than what is "best." Sometimes when I point out a "least worse" in a positive light, as after all progress that is pulling away towards a positive direction comes across as if its my preferable course of action which usually is not. I dont support the majority or just about all of Trump's end game policies. Countries have a right to Sovereignty. We know the US wants to annex Canada and Greenland, and you can be sure of a war if happens by force. Wars have raged since the dawn of man. And to the winner goes the spoils.
The war in Ukraine has been raging for 3 years now, with a half trillion dollars spent and some 300k Ukrainians lost... and Russia holds 20% of their land and appears to be gaining ground. Sending money and weapons is simply NOT a viable solution. It will only prolong the war, cost hundreds of thousands of more lives, and in the end Ukraine will lose even more, if not ALL, or their land. I think Trump sees the writing on the wall and is interested in brokering a peace deal.

If the EU wants to fight, gather a coalition of the willing and get going! Push those Russians out by force. Put up or shut up. It might lead to WW3, but maybe not. Roll those dice if you have the 'nads. But while you guys talk tough on the internet, brave Ukrainians are dying. Put together a plan that might actually work!!! But one that doesn't involve US weapons (we are running dangerously low) or US bodies (this isn't our fight)...

Or in a completely different approach, there might be a way for EU nations to use actual military power against Russia in Ukraine without it becoming a NATO vs Russia WW3 type event. First, no one wants a major nuclear war because no one wins. Not us and certainly not Putin based on performance of their weapons thus far. And even a smaller tactical nuclear war would be offset by equal and opposite force with the same weapons that could be brought to bear against Russia by the EU forces. Western countries in a non-NATO action could potentially operate within Ukraine without subjecting their homelands to direct attack, the same way that Russia doesn't want direct attacks from western forces on Moscow. Putin must know his threats work both ways....

It could be argued that EU forces helping defend Ukraine, in Ukraine territory only, at the invitation of Ukraine is not a direct threat to the integrity of mother Russia ("their" nuclear line in the sand). Perhaps some collection of EU forces could assist in same way that Russian forces moved into Syria to support and defend Assad at the request of the Syrian government. Any escalation is risky, but if the EU boys are feeling froggy... go ahead and leap.

At this point the three options I see for Ukraine are:

1) The Trump peace plan, accepting the Russian annexation in exchange for ending the war, saving lives and saving the remainder of Ukraine. I like the idea of both countries becoming financial partners with the States. To be fair, the US botched our part in the Ukraine war very badly. (1) We never should have pushed for NATO in Ukraine. We ALL knew this was a red line for Russia that would start a war. I was in boot camp when our Marine barracks was blown up in Lebanon (Sept 1983) with 220 Marines killed, and in October 1983 when Marines rescued students with an invasion of the island of Grenada. I was still in the Marines when Reagan was dropping bombs on Gaddafi in Libya.

Its all the fault of EU leadership, same as Europeans feel a threat, EU/USA policy has been left Russia but no choice but to feel threatened by Europe.
