You’re making me glad I didn’t join(considered it) cause I could have ended up a goofball that paraded my “service” around on the internet for valor points or some sort of self validation of my intellect. I actually have an SF brother in law and a buddy that was a ranger. They despise people like you that advertise their enlistment. Let me guess, you have 3-4 bumper stickers that say something like “I served” or “veteran?”

Just since you MUST know, I have a 4 year degree. College was easy for me and a box to check to get my high paying job. Not something I use as a measuring stick to gauge other men like you. the military is my fraternity just like those who go to college football games and support the team from college they went to...i am very proud of my military service, if others who have served are not so proud to have been in military then that is on them...i associate with veterans at the local legion and donate time at the VA hospital and like the fellowship we share, if you think this is bad then i could care less.

To be clear, I have great respect for any man that works very hard and does so for a cause he truly believes in. Many examples of this in and out of the military.

If something is done out of the goodness of one’s heart, they should have no motivation to advertise it or seek praise for it. I understand that for a lot of people military is a job and not just done to be a servant and that is fine.

In the situation I was referencing, it was blatant that since I hadn’t served, I don’t get an opinion on politics or war. Just because someone doesn’t join the military, absolutely doesn’t make him any less of a patriot than someone else who has served, and vise versa.

That’s awesome T. Sounds like a great community. That was the biggest thing I was drawn to that almost made me join…the sense of brotherhood. I was lucky to have gotten a taste of it in college living with a bunch of guys and participating at a high level of athletics with them. Still keep in touch and get together year.

You absolutely should have pride in what you did/do. It should just never be used as a measuring stick to dismiss your fellow man’s opinion because he has chosen a path different than yours.

Side note: I actually think I’ll greatly encourage my kids to skip college if there isn’t something they are passionate about being there for. Entrepreneurship or trades seem like such a better route more and more these days.

Even experts have either varying opinions, disagreements, end up wrong, etc....

Also, being in the military doesnt make them an expert on geopolitical issues, and what they tell you there is often lies and propaghanda (Gulf of Tonkin, Iraq WMD's, and countless others Ive talked about here over the years) There are a bunch in the military who sure are woke and pay the price for it, such as Pat Tillman.

At the end of the day, military or not, we are all Americans and on the same boat, its up to us to both find out and stand up for the truth. There is a club, and most of us both civilian and military aint in it, but together we can be more powerful than them.
