I'm not for or against keeping them as I'm not from there and I don't know, or care, about American history. Just as much as Amercians don't care about NZ history.

I'm all for preserving history if it signifies something for better or worse, but again I don't actually know the full story just what I see/ read.

If the monuments have true meaning then by all means keep them, but you do have to ask if everything needs to be kept for the sake of it, because not all monuments have actual historical significance. E.g. if I erect a giant middle finger monument, I can't just say it has historical significance simply because it is a monument.

Are people trying to justify something that signifies hate as historical, simply because it is a monument?

isn't it ironic that those who need police the most are the ones who hate the police the most, lol.

I grew up poor in a mixed neighborhood, we hated the police---but then again we were often breaking the law and more than a few of us were outright thugs....the police are what kept most of us from crossing the line.

I think about all the idiots I hung out with in my youth, we all hated cops of course....when I was old enough I realized that if I REALLY needed help, not of those mo'fo's would be there for me but cops will always show up at my doorstep no matter what the danger.

Somehow simple logic hit my head and my whole life changed for the better.

ROFL! I was liberal probably until a few months after Obama took office and I realized how hypocritical they are.
