Feminism and a lot of other social movements have become (or always were) about obtaining more advantages and power, NOT about equality.

And IMO, the left is also about pushing aside the white working class (particularly white working class males) to give opportunity to other groups (women, particularly elite coastal types (not those trashy hick racist "deplorables" in the center of the country), ethnic minorities, LGBT etc)... they rightly I think see the pie as finite and want to displace the white working class and give it to ultimately themselves (they being left wing interest groups listed above).

Also, the dems and their donors want open borders, lots of low wage immigrant labor, and free trade. It fits the dem view of empowering poor around the world and convientley also the interests of large corporations who want lots of cheap labor to drive down market competition as well as create new commercial markets in other countries.

That said, it's also my opinion that the Republican party primary represents and acts upon the interests of the rich in the United States and elsewhere, and are ultimately as bad if not worse for the middle class than the democrats. I would like to support Trump but his budget is ridiculously favored to the wealthy. No budget that claims to prioritize reducing the deficit and balancing the budget should be repealing the estate tax while cutting medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program for poor kids (many of whom I saw when working in a medical clinic for the poor).

The white working class is being squeezed on both sides from dems and repubs and the poor and middle classes are also being squeezed on both sides by the politicians and the rich.
 
Guys watch wake up America on Snapchat (normally very Democratic point of view) it makes a great point on how Democrats are violently squeezing out the voice of Republicans especially in places where free speak is stressed.

When we think about terrorism we most often think about the horrors of a Manchester-like attack, where a radicalized suicide bomber went into a concert hall and killed dozens of innocent civilians. It was an inexcusable act of savagery and it certainly did terrorize the population.

What is less considered are attacks that leave far more civilians dead, happen nearly daily instead of rarely, and produce a constant feeling of terror and dread. These are the civilians on the receiving end of US and allied bombs in places like Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, and elsewhere.

Last week alone, US and “coalition” attacks on Syria left more than 200 civilians dead and many hundreds more injured. In fact, even though US intervention in Syria was supposed to protect the population from government attacks, US-led air strikes have killed more civilians over the past month than air strikes of the Assad government. That is like a doctor killing his patient to save him.

Do we really believe we are fighting terrorism by terrorizing innocent civilians overseas? How long until we accept that “collateral damage” is just another word for “murder”?

The one so-called success of the recent G7 summit in Sicily was a general agreement to join together to “fight terrorism.” Have we not been in a “war on terrorism” for the past 16 years? What this really means is more surveillance of innocent civilians, a crackdown on free speech and the Internet, and many more bombs dropped overseas. Will doing more of what we have been doing do the trick? Hardly! After 16 years fighting terrorism, it is even worse than before we started. This can hardly be considered success.

They claim that more government surveillance will keep us safe. But the UK is already the most intrusive surveillance state in the western world. The Manchester bomber was surely on the radar screen. According to press reports, he was known to the British intelligence services, he had traveled and possibly trained in bomb-making in Libya and Syria, his family members warned the authorities that he was dangerous, and he even flew terrorist flags over his house. What more did he need to do to signal that he may be a problem? Yet somehow even in Orwellian UK, the authorities missed all the clues.

But it is even worse than that. The British government actually granted permission for its citizens of Libyan background to travel to Libya and fight alongside al-Qaeda to overthrow Gaddafi. After months of battle and indoctrination, it then welcomed these radicalized citizens back to the UK. And we are supposed to be surprised and shocked that they attack?

The real problem is that both Washington and London are more interested in regime change overseas than any blowback that might come to the rest of us back home. They just do not care about the price we pay for their foreign policy actions. No grand announcement of new resolve to “fight terrorism” can be successful unless we understand what really causes terrorism. They do not hate us because we are rich and free. They hate us because we are over there, bombing them.

EXACTLY! Killing and banning people to fight an idea (terrorism) makes absolutely no sense, but it's easier to blame a group of people and create jobs for future military.

I agree it is a major issue. I believe the corporations want it because it means cheap, desperate 3rd world labor that destroys the bargaining power of American/1st world workers (see how corporations broke unions getting good wages with illegals in this country).

Hillary in a paid, private speech to a foreign (Brazilian) bank: "My dream is a hemispheric common market with open trade and open borders."

BTW, IMO the paid speeches Hillary and other pols get is basically workaround for bribery hidden in plain site. The banks say, "Well we can't give you 500k directly because that's a bribe. However, Hillary, we'll PAY you 500k 'to give a speech,' and maybe you'll look out for our interests in the future... and then we'll invite you to give another 'speech."

It's bribery.


Anyway, about open borders:

The ideal is diversity, free trade/travel, etc... however it feels more that as we import more people from these nations, we import the problems as well, and our nation starts to look more like the dysfunctional south american countries (income inequality, dysfunctional politics, lots of fighting).

Also, the abuse of social services by illegal immigrants is a real issue. I worked at an organization that served to poor people for several years. The stuff we saw was ridiculous - woman who admits to being here illegally utilizing multiple social services says she hasn't worked in more than 10 years, having kids who also need social services, women here illegally getting subsidized housing, free medical care, and having kids with men now in prison. It's a mess.

However, it's also just one end of the spectrum and I don't think the poor illegal abusing social services costs this country more in tax dollars or opportunity than the bankers and rich corporations lobbying repubs and dems for tax loopholes ... but the rich are very good at redirecting hate and attention away from them and towards the poor.

if you look back the robber baron period was probably the most corrupt, but it did lay the foundation for infrastructure and the manufacturing base that led to this country becoming a real force in the world, especially during and after ww2. granted that immigrants played a huge role in this, but at that time immigration was controlled and there was no welfare state for immigrants to take advantage of, immigration at that time was a big win for this country....things have changed!!!
 
I would also argue that Roosevelt's New Deal implemented after world war II played a significant part in creating the middle class in the United States.

Also, immigration in those days was mostly from Europe. So you had people of different BUT SIMILAR cultures with a degree of shared history and values, relative to today. Ex: Irish, Italians, Germans, French, English are all more similar to each other in terms of history/values/appearance than Chinese are to Mexican are to English are to Arab/Muslims.

Now, IMO we have immigration from groups that are very different in terms of history, values, appearance (because people are shallow), and it creates conflict in many cases, rather than greater unity. And I'm strongly against selling out our own people to import cheap labor, even if that cheap labor is more talented.

Progressives I've spoken with say essentially that they would rather (so long as it doesn't affect their field directly) the more talented Chinese immigrant get the job from a less talented (or less willing to work for cheap) native-born American. Corporations love that idea also for obvious reasons. My stepfather is a very gifted engineer in silicon valley but around 75% of workers there are foreign born (H1B visas recipients etc.), and put downward pressure on wages (because they'll work for cheap cause it's better than where they come from) and upward pressure on housing prices.

Not from what I've seen, but I'm also not a democrat. Democrats should distance themselves from Hillary if she is going to keep blaming everybody else. They need new blood rather than just shifting crap around.

It wasn't viewed as similar by most. Irish and Italian might seem similar to us today, but you don't have to look back very far to find serious prejudice and stereotyping. Same with immigrants from within the same country, but of different Christian religions. Again, you don't have to go back too far to see killings occurring between Catholics and Protestants.

with all of the irish and Italian immigrants I can't find any history of a movement to make irish[gaelic] or Italian 2nd languages, they knew they had to learn the language and get a job--they didn't get or expect government handouts!!!

from my perspective[as a republican]I view the democrats as demonizing conservative values and policies.

I hear the left accusing the right of fear mongering, but I see a whole lot of hate towards the right coming from the left.

the new democratic slogan is...'Summer Of Resistance'---you would think they would have learned that just disagreeing with the other side is a loser--they need to formulate a platform that shows how they could do better, imo.

If he was a good leader, he would have reworked the deal, but it was never about it being a good or bad deal. It was an easy cheap shot.

Are you serious lol? If you make ~100k a year, id bet about half of that goes to taxes in some form (roughly 30% or that goes to income tax alone). Sales tax, federal income tax, state income tax, property tax, gas tax, alcohol tax, dont wanna buy federally mandated insurance, welp theres a tax for that too. It goes on and on. Taxed to have a well, to hunt wildlife ON MY OWN PROPERTY (which I already pay taxes on, mind you), taxed to own a house (on the property which I already pay taxes on, mind you), taxed on the right to call 911, taxed to attend a sporting event (which the owner of the stadium likely already pays taxes on the stadium, and the property it sits on), taxes to get married, taxed to own a gun, taxed to inherit money from a family member (not saying this applies to me, its bull**** either way), taxed to own an ATV or RV, taxed to get a fishing license to fish on private property (which they already pay taxes for), taxes to flush the toilet (#21!), taxed to own a dog, taxed to drive a biodiesel vehicle.

Do I need to continue? It isnt that "we pay very little taxes", our government abuses tax payer dollars and BLOWS our money on unnecessary shît like meddling in the rest of the world's business.

Every person in the US (300mil ppl right?) Pays roughly $8800 in tax (by dividing total revenue by population). In australia we pay $18000. In britain they pay roughly $11800 each.

Not surprised to hear this from you, lol. The ONLY negative about the deal was the 100B we're "supposed" to send to poorer countries in aid (no punishment for not doing so). Otherwise, the deal was just an attempt to try to get the world to be more cognizant of their emissions and the POTENTIAL effects on the climate that they have (i dont feel like entering that debate again, hence "potential". It doesnt change the argument anyway). There's no punishment for not following it, and really, nothing good comes out of withdrawing from it (because we're going to send money to poor countries regardless).

Edit: trump is already starting to just play the political game (I agree with Aleksander that this was just a jab at dems just because he could). He's nothing more than a lying ass politician to me at the current point. He hasnt done anything to prove otherwise.

This is still too low though lol. Roughly 20-30% of our income goes to income taxes (depends on gross income). Add in everyday taxes from the list above and it isnt hard to see how quickly they accumulate.
