Does Saw Palmetto Hinder Gains?

Been training 100% natty for a while now, but tired of getting up to pee multiple times per night.. often multiple times before I even fall asleep. Idk for sure if it's prostate related, but yeah.. I hear saw palmetto can help and it's cheap.

Will this hurt my gains? I know it blocks conversion to DHT, not sure how this affects actual testosterone though. Not sure why blocking conversion to DHT would hurt overall t levels. Can anyone share some insights here? Has saw palmetto actually hurt anyone else's performance here? Is it even potent enough to worry about?

Any help on the subject would be nice. I have read so many mixed opinions on the subject the past few weeks I don't even know what to believe or expect now.

I figure I can try it for a few months to see if it helps and then maybe run 3 month cycles here and there?? I don't know what would be effective. I know I ran a lot of epiandro and r-andro in the past and they probably weren't nice to my prostate haha

I’ve never used it & have no prostate issues.

But DHT comes from 5a-reduced testosterone, which Saw Palmetto inhibits. Meaning you have MORE total testosterone available, not less. You would have a less androgenic environment with less DHT, which may lower libido or negatively upset the balance with estrogen that prevents gyno, but you won’t lose out on anabolism.

I’d personally take it and see how you respond, as you said you intend to. You can always stop if it doesn’t help the pee or you don’t like how you feel.

I don't think that you have anything to worry about.

I take Saw Palmetto myself and have never felt that it hindered anything.

This is spot on. I highly doubt you would notice any significant difference one way or another in your gains with saw palmetto (I never have).

But like @Hyde said, when you inhibit DHT you also increase testosterone. This probably isn't very noticeable with saw palmetto but the numbers are pretty well documented with finasteride.

Saw palmetto certainly does not inhibit the 5-alpha reduction of testosterone. I've ready double blind placebo controlled study after study. Not only does in not inhibit DHT production, there was no increase in flow rates, either. It's a useless supplement.

If you're interested in the subject, you can find some studies that show that it does and some studies showing that it doesn't and one thing that stands out to me is the ones that appear that it does usually use an extract whereas some of the ones that don't show using the herbal form or if they do use an extract, they don't specify it. Some of them may, but when I was looking into this awhile back that's what I noticed.

I think that a properly dosed saw palmetto extract can be useful for prostate health, but that standardization definitely matters and also think that its an example of an herb that may work better for one person that another.

That's the reason that for the upcoming Prostate Support XT product that we do include it, but it isn't the primary ingredient in the formula.

Ursolic acid helps with prostate issues. Actually reduces the size of prostate.
