Does anyone ride dirt bikes /dual sport motorcycles/ four wheelers etc...?

Growing up I had numerous dirt bikes and four wheelers. I have been jonesin' for another dirt bike for years. Think I will finally pull the trigger on a dual sport for short commuting every once in awhile and trails on the weekends or when I have time. I have been looking at the Honda CRF 450RL. I see Suzuki just released the replacement for the DRZ400, but I like how the Honda is a little lighter which is nice in the woods. The Suzuki will have much less maintenance, but I am kind of a Honda fan boy. Though that Suzuki engine is tried and true with a longer track record, I just wish that it was lighter. I don't really want to buy a first year bike either. What I would really like is a light bike without all the communist EPA BS slapped on and lean fuel issues, but those days are gone.

I still have an 80's era 250 Suzuki Quad Racer. Might bring that back from my folks' home and start working on it. It ran when I parked it, but will need a lot of work to get running again.

Anywho...

Anyone here ride dirt bikes, ATV's, or motorcycles in general?

Not anymore, but it was a big part of my life when I was younger. I keep thinking about getting back into it, or even mountain biking. The injury risk is a big deterrent for me these days though, I've had too many surgeries lol

I use to. Miss it. Loved it. 84 Suzuki DR 100 was my first. Was on it for 15 min before I broke both bones in right forearm. Second was a 1985 Kx 125. Loved that bike. Now o just ride on the pavement.

Drooling over the 250 quad racer. Cousin had a 500 “quadzilla” bored .80 over. It was just mean.

To your point, I’d avoid a first year bike. You won’t hate the Honda. It’s a Honda

Yes, I think about injuries too, but am just going to pray that it doesn't happen, or at least nothing too serious.

bought it from my college professor who also rode motorcycles and knew i rode. We had a sweetheart deal in 2017- I get an adult job after graduation and showed him a paystub -> he sold it to me for 1800 with 7500 miles on it

been cranking it for the last 8 years

Oh yeah my neighbor had the DR 100 when I had the XR 80. The DR was a great bike.

Crazy about the 15 minutes. Was it the front wheel death wobble or something else? Never ridden the KX, but always loved Kawasaki. The KLX 300 is pretty nice, but too heavy and just not enough oomph for me, at least that is what I keep telling myself. It is definitely better than the CRF 300l.

Yes, the quad racer is an icon. I loved that thing but then got a Yamaha 350 warrior and ran that instead. I was just tired of having to rip full bore everywhere haha. Wish I wouldn't have sold the Warrior.

My favorite bike ever was the XR 250. Still don't know why I sold that.

I never had the opportunity to ride the Quadzilla, but always wanted too. Would love to own one one day. The Raptors are cool.

Oh very nice. And yes, sweetheart deal for sure!

While different, my brother just bought a Honda Rebel 500. I haven't seen it yet or taken it for a ride. Will see it later this summer.

My first was a 1971 YZ 175. I think mom was heart broken when she asked if I wanted a horse and I asked if I could have a dirt bike instead, lol. I rebuilt that thing a hundred times easily. looking back its wild to think of the things we did around ages 13-15. I remember I couldn't even drive yet, dad would have to take me somewhere to buy a new wheel or chain off someone lol. My buddies grew it and got big into racing 125s, then eventually one went 4 stroke and raced for KTM. I stuck with BMX, so we basically cross trained together. they'd ride BMX with me and I'd ride moto with them.

Oh man it really is crazy to think about the things we did back then. I remember all the times riding without buddies and doing things that I shouldn't have without friends to help if things went wrong like rolling the four wheeler over on my back on a steep hill or flipping over the handle bars on my four wheeler when flying through a creek creek. I flipped over the handle bars and landed on my back. The four wheeler kept rolling and basically ran over top of me. Crazy stuff. (Still don't know exactly what happened)

Horses are cool, but a YZ 175 is even cooler. My one friend had one. It was probably around a 1971 or so as well. That was a great bike. I remember him zipping down this one hill at my house. The front handle bars started doing the death wobble and he went flying. He broke his collar bone, but the bike was fine. Growing up we had so many places to ride. I am from rural PA, there were so many places to ride back then. The power lines, family farms etc... It was one of the best times of my life. Not nearly as many places to ride now, especially in MA, but some places are not too far away.

Yeah my dad would always find time to take me to get chains, tires, and help with maintenance. Good times.

ahaha yeah broke my collarbone too but the forks were trashed after that wreck. I grew up on a small farm so we were always fukin' around lol. all the magazines were always covering California riders, sheep hills etc so we did what we could to try to catch up in rainy PNW

That jump there is the one that finally converted me to wearing helmets full time. I took a face plant in the dirt so hard I ripped the grip right off the handlebar and when I stood up I realized the dent in the mud from my face was inches away from a boulder. God was looking out for me that day.

I rode across the middle of a grassy hill instead of riding to the top and crossing. Rear tire kicked out to the left down the wet grass and I put my arm out to stop my fall. SNAP!!!
Bought it march 15th 1991 from a kid in Framingham Ma for $525 out of the WantAdvertizer the 25 bucks went to the ad price lol. Broke arm the 16th cause I remember missing St Patty’s day dinner the day after. White w a blue seat

Yes, I had many rear tire skid outs resulting in drops and wrecks exactly like that one, but thank goodness I didn't break any bones.

Funny how you remember the date because of food haha. 💪

The white ones were always my favorite. My friend had the yellow with blue seat.

Well, I did it. Say prayers that I never get hurt or worse. Haven't ridden her yet, but soon. Waiting for my helmet...
