DMSO Questions

I have made several HBs in the past consisting of Ethyl Alcohol, IPM and OA. I decided to add some DMSO at about 10% to my next HB to increase the absorption rate.

I purchased a bottle of DMSO from LeLemange (sp?). When I opened the bottle the DMSO reeked like rotten seafood almost to the point that I started to gag. Being the hardcore person I am, I added it to my HB anyway at 10% of the total.

A couple of questions:

Does DMSO itself just reek really bad? After I added it to my HB, my HB smelled really bad for a couple of days and I would get that rotten seafood smell taste in my mouth after applying my HB. After a couple days the smell and taste went away. Does this mean the DMSO has broken down in my HB after a couple of days?

It probably is not USP.. That means 99.9% pure. I know lemelange is not to pure . Like 95% or something. That is why it smells. Its not a big deal it will work good. Next time try to find the USP version.. Link Removed   Hope that helps.. talk to ya..
 
Yes, its smells like dead hooker's ass. Thats the prime reason why many people add scented oils to their homebrews. The smell alone is enough to turn a woman off, between that and shriveled up balls, you're battin' 0-2.

And I believe you are also correct on the second statement/question.

ROTFLMAO............I don't even wanna know how you know what that smells like............now a living hooker in the netherlands I could help you out with.......but dead? naw......hehehehehe
 
I hadn't opened my DMSO yet, so I don't know how it smells. Anyhow mine says 99.9% pure....then at the bottom it says 70%DMSO 30% distilled water. I guess dilution is required to prevent skin irritation.
So when adding scented oil is 5% added in place of 5% of the ISO? and can any oil be used...d-limon....orange scent oil ect...???

Scorpio that DMSO is not as good. It is dilutted 30% with water... If you can wait  I would get the 99.9% stuff in concentration as well... I would think that the water in the solution would change some of the properties and you may not be able to disolve as much ph's in it.. Also the solution won't have as high of absorption as if you used the 99% DMSO.. Well you will know for next time.. Talk to ya...

Can you let me know where to get 99.9% stuff at or post a link??? The place I got it from had different kinds gel....liquid...4oz.....8oz... At the top of the label it says 99.9%,, then at the bottom it says 70%dmso 30% water....they all said the same thing on the label. Mabe the gel was 99.9%.....don't know....I'll go back and check before I start mixing. Thanks for the heads up.
