Diet Coke is NOT Bad for You (per science)

“Diet Coke is as bad as using your mobile phone.”

This provocative statement might raise some eyebrows, but it’s not far from the truth when it comes to cancer risk. Both fall into the same category of “possibly carcinogenic,” according to the Invalid Link Removed.

But before you toss your diet soda or ditch your smartphone, let’s put this into perspective.

The Invalid Link Removed, classified aspartame — the sweetener in many diet sodas — as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” in 2023. This classification, however, doesn’t mean diet soda is harmful in normal consumption. It’s crucial to understand that the IARC assesses potential hazards, not actual risk, based on typical use.

In fact, another Invalid Link Removed, has consistently deemed aspartame safe within accepted daily limits since 1981. To reach dangerous levels, an average adult would need to consume between 12 and 36 cans of diet soda every day (which isn’t impossible but not exactly easy to do). This discrepancy highlights the importance of context in interpreting such classifications.

My wife and I argue over this all the time, as she is very anti-artificial sweeteners but over and over again the studies seem to indicate they are overwhelmingly safe. Especially if you're only having a couple diet sodas a week or something. I will 100% reach for a diet coke or a gatorade zero while golfing as a substitute for an alcoholic beverage. or even the occasional splenda in my black coffee.

It's interesting that you post this. I'm not a fan of the WHO generally, but even Layne Norton was back on this topic on his most recent Hubberman Labs podcast appearance. I don't think he'd tell you to just drink 10 diet cokes a day, but he is one of those who I believe will not villainize artificial sweeteners as well and I really like his opinions because he is so incredibly data driven in his opinions.

Just make sure your partner avoids it if she's pregnant. It's very heavily linked (in studies) to increased risk of autism for your children if consumed regularly when pregnant

How many diet cokes per day for her to pop out Elon Musk?

That was kinda the direction I was leaning lol

my wife gets mad when I take autism tests and score off the charts autisic. Shes like "you're just manipulating it to look autistic". I'm like doood, how do you know I'm not mainpulating real life to look NOT autistic? LOL

I never got into artificial sweeteners because they all leave a strange taste in my mouth

Interestingly, Stevia is used as a contraceptive in Paraguay.

My girlfriend and I are both really sensitive to the taste of Stevia. When we try samples blindly at Costco, we’ll look at each other and say, 'Yep, this definitely has Stevia,' and when we check the labels, we’re always right.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the kind of autism that leads to building rockets and going to Mars. Instead i got the 'tism that stares at people's tires and judges them based on tread depth and tire/wheel combos

my step daughter and her boyfriend came to stay with us for a week back on the 4th of july.
they're still with us.
and unemployed.
with no real plan.

I told my wife if I'm difficult at home right now, I'm sorry it's just my autism.

I will say though when I get home from work and the kitchen is a mess that **** really sets me off 😅 😅

it's true, I'm not interested. I don't like my routine changed, and I never understand what the hell they're so upset about. lol
