DHEA

My DHEA-s labs came back very low below normal, so I'm just wondering what brand everybody is using for their DHEA and how they taking it, I.e. upon waking, with food, etc. Thanks.

How low was it? I take 25 mgs in the am. Both with and without food. Since my levels are up, I've started taking it twice a week on injection days. It's called backfilling, you use a high dose to get your levels up then use a maintenance to keep them there.

I thought she said like 14, but it might've been 40, not sure. Either way, pretty low with regard to the reference range I just checked (120 - 520 microgram/deciliter).

What brand do you use?

I use Life Extension brand. I like it and based on my levels, it works. My levels were around 40 also and now they're in the upper 400's where my Dr wants them.

When I use dhea it's bulk powder that I make into a topical. I take it anytime of day and avoid nighttime

What do u mix with it to make it into a topical? Ive heard the absorption is way better that way? And has a longer lasting effect?

Are you on testosterone replacement? Seems common for those of us who are on, mine came back low as well.

Yeah, after about a year on trt my dhea level dropped below range. Nearly 5 years later it's still below range. I wonder if trt will cause premature aging if dhea levels are kept low?

Kisaj has some good insight into DHEA and Preg supplementation. I went back and forth with him a bit because I was in the same boat thinking, why take something (DHEA) that provides yet another opportunity to convert to estrogen. Well, I stand corrected and now see the validity of Kisaj argument. DHEA is very beneficial to cardiovascular health and provides a host of other health and wellness benefits and becomes extremely important on TRT because your levels will tank, which is not good.

Well, my cardiovascular system needs all the help it can get. So I'll be starting it as soon as I get it.

It's never the same mix. I keep it real basic using mostly alcohol and I mix in other stuff to aid penetration (acne cleansers). Sometimes pretreat the area with dmso and I've mix'd it in before. I use various oils (jojoba) in different amounts to avoid drying the skin too much. I use a basic spray bottle and mist it on.

I've tried pre-made mix's before, salvo, penetrate some others but they are difficult to mix the powder into solution and mostly I get crystals after it dries and they felt like sandpaper going on.

To correct DHEA levels I would suggest the following as causes seen clinically
1. Poor sleep hygiene
2. Hidden infections or pathogens - I see this one missed all the time
3. Increased excitation due to brain not shutting off (glutamate and increased catecholamines
4. TRT therapy causing drop in DHEA due to negative feed back loop
5. Working out too late

Giving DHEA may restore levels, but as I have seen in several hundred cases it may be masking something else which may surface months to years later.
