"Only a day after being confirmed as fighting on the UFC 75 card in London, England on September 8th Mirko ‘‘Cro Cop’’ Filipovic plans to retire after seeing out the remaining 4 fights of his UFC contract.

‘‘Cro Cop’’, has had mixed fortunes since joining the UFC, for a 6-fight deal from his former promoter Pride. Before losing in devastating fashion to Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70: Nations Collide he was reckoned by many to be the second best heavyweight on the planet, after Fedor Emelianenko, and the natural successor to Randy Couture's heavyweight UFC world title.

‘‘Cro Cop’’ has voiced his desire to return to the secret police at the end both his current term in the Croatian parliament and UFC contract.
The announcement was made on Croation television and Nikkan Sports."

I wonder if he wants to go back to the "secret police", or if the "secret police" want him back? Sounds very Orwellian.

CC has threatened retirement so many times now. It is starting to get annoying because he does it every time his contract is coming to an end.

4 more fights, I can live with that, I was thinking an immediate retirement when I saw this headline.

I've never heard of a fighter, MMA or Boxing, announce their retirement so far in advance.

I'd like to think this is a good thing, Mirko has a plan to focus in on.

I'm predicting at least four more fights here for CNorris/Gollum -fighters TBA.

Heavyweight is an interesting division as you see some guys at 220s some 240s and a few near the limit in the 260s. They should change the weight classes to 145, 165, 185/195. 215/225, and a heavyweight. Lots of guys in 205 walk around in the 220s so you would think that the others in the hw div like Crocop or Fedor could drop to 205 too.

Hopefully the 4 fights are: Arlovski, Couture, Gonzaga, and Fedor, in that order.

If those are his fights, I could live with that as well. It's strange to announce it so far ahead. Will Dana give him a title shot if he's just going to retire?

Ersatz, a weightclass restructuring is not a bad idea. Personally, I think for the CC case Crocop just wants to compete in the hardest weight class.

Jas, how do you see CC doing in those 4 fights? This is probably a pretty standard opinion, but I see him winning the first 3, and of course losing to Fedor. More then anything I hope CC gets a chance against GG again. CC will beat Gonzaga if they fight again.

I want him to fight Fedor, Nog, Couture, and GG. Granted 3 are rematches, but they all need to happen.

I agree with that. I give him a chance against Fedor if he can perform like he did in the OWGP, but he probably wouldn't be the favorite. Soukou will KO Fedor. Ok, no.

A rematch with Nog should happen, but I just don't see CC losing to Nog again. Arlovski would be timid as hell against CC. It would probably be a snoozefest until the KO.

GG imo is going to be the next big thing...I feel he will drop couture pretty quick and move on to defend for a while. Just my 2 cents. Arvloski needs to grow some balls... his last fight was a disgrace. Seems like he wants to get his $ and get the hell out quick.

CC is very solid at 220, but 15 lbs is nothing, he could drop most of that in water weight to make 205.

Can't wait for GSP to start kickin some ass again.. he just needs a few sessions with a shrink on the mental prep. lol

I hope you are wrong about GG being the next "big thing". I can't stand him. I'd love to see that guy get put away by Couture, but it very likely may not happen.
