Creatine and water retention.

I have been putting off running my cycle of until I get my diet/training 100%. I have not taken creatine since I was a lot younger (early 20's) but lately been reading up on it, people seem to say it is vital when training.

I have also read that creatine can cause bad water retention. Is this true or just "bro science"?

My stats

41 years old, 175 cm and 80KG. Training 3 days lifting and 3 days cardio. Currently in calorie deficit trying to loose BF.
 
Water retention comes when you load with like 20g or whatever the old broscience was. If you are taking reasonable doses, you won't notice much retention. Once saturated you really only need around 3g dosed on training days.
 
Agreed water retention is minimal 5grams a day and good to go
