Country Gets HUGE with 5-3-1, Erase and DAA.

I just need to so something. I'm not sure my bench will even be ready. Kinda pissed how far this has set me back. Should have just gone to the doc right away but I didn't realize how serious it was.

It's part of the sport.

I got invited to do a strongman comp for charity in my home town. It's 30 bucks. I may do it if I can make it home.

Sorry if I missed this but what injury do you have/ how'd you do it

Just wear and tear/ over use. Been pushing through or working with them for months. Bicep tendinitis, knee pain, mid trap/rhomboid strain.

For a while I had some real bad knee funk. Turned out my VM were overly tight, and pulling on my knee. Basically every time I'd squat down it would pop and be incredibly painful.

I ended up having to not squat /train legs for a few weeks and rolling my VMs really helped

Yikes. That's no fun. I haven't heard VM that much. A lot of people hve tightness in the TFL/glutes affecting the IT band which isnt balance with the other musculature at the knee. But it's the same basic problem you said just different muscles causing it. I've been stretching mine and it seems to help.

Rep deadlifts tonight! Sureeee. Sucks that my 10 rep Max is 455 though.

So I guess I pull like 475 for sets? Bahaha

Also I wana ask some of you strongman types about some events. I'll post the form later for discussion. I think I have a strong advantage on the deadlift events but def not the pressing stuff.

Meh because I ate too late today, over slept my nap after I worked 5-10. I wanted to nap 45 minutes and napped 5 hours instead. I was exhausted from this weekend though and diet all messed up as well. Offroading and camping all weekend was a blast but dang it messed me up.

So any more input on those supps we discussed? I'm gona download that strongman form and post for you guys with experience to look over and make suggestions. I'm doing so I can deadlift something and donate to charity and have fun because I think it's interesting and wana dip my foot in the strongman waters.

I warmed up pulls then did 405x10,12,10. Had way more in me but stomach wasnt feelin hot and got some bad reflux going.

Did my accessory work.

Weight is holding at 194 and all that fun stuff.

Oh yeah I didn't some SLDL and snatch cool downs.

Here's the strong man info I have so far.

That's what I'm thinking and at those weights I should crush it. I'm not sure what they increase by but considering the starting class weights jump by 25...?

That one looks fun! Not too heavy in any discipline. I say try to get healthy and try to do the whole thing.

Keep in mind for knee considerations that the hinged deadlifts are more akin to a hack squat than your typical deadlift. But I think the weight is so light in that event that you won't have any knee trouble or technique trouble, unless they really add a lot of weight for each rep.

Even if they add 50# each that only gets to 625 and it is like a hack squat or I think a trap bar deadlift and also the weight is hinging in the group not a full pull. I don't think I'll have an issue with that. I am gona focus on being healthy and just do it for the experience. I think one guy I train with is going to as well.

I agree the weights look pretty light. And fun.

Man, in really tired today. Not much sleep and last nights session have me wiped out! Need some recovery food.

That strongman show looks fun, it'll definitely be something you can do.

The log is actually pretty light (even at MW) so you should be gtg.

Thats a lot of reps at 405 bud. that strongman comp looks fun! sure you'll kill it.

It sure was. I was getting gassed/stomach pains before muscle failure lol. Screw reps.

I thought so as well especially since I can push press right? I've never cleaned a log though. I was hoping you would pop in :)

Yeah, you can even do a jerk if you feel proficient enough with the technique.

I'll get on the CPU and give some tips/links on the clean tonight when I get off work.

Sweet. Yeah I can't jerk. I can clean pretty well though, just never used a log. I'll have to practice them a little. I would appreciate that!

I'm also officially rockin the shaved head big beard PLer look.

Nice, you're gonna kill it man. I'm wanting to dabble in strongman myself.

Thanks man. I've always had a desire even before my desire to compete in PL. This will be a very small step in the door.

Here is a pretty good tutorial video on it from the Starting Strongman page.

A few things that I've noticed from doing it myself is that I, and some others, prefer to take a false grip with the log the whole time. What I mean, is that I don't wrap the thumbs around the handles and instead "gorilla" grip it with the handles resting on the meat of my palm which helps me keep it tight to my chest the whole time. Also, instead of thinking about "rolling it up the chest", I find that "explode with the hips" works better. Basically, you want the hips to come up under the log when it is in your lap and use that to "pop" it up to the rack position.

Awesome Jim! Thanks a ton man. I'm gona check that out in the morning.

Tonight was basically bench

Bw193.8

Bench barx20x3. 135x7x3, 185x7 225x7,7,6 135x7x3

Felt good. Did the same as last week on the 225. Meh

Squats 135x10x3 form focus

Tri db skulls 20x10x2 30x10x2

Dips- 5,5

Rows 2px12,15, 3px15x2

Stretched.

Shoulder is feeling pretty pain free which is good. Gona Deload squats this week with maybe another light session Friday

Do it! Looks like it would be light and fun, all for a good cause.

Funny you mention that, my newest issue is exactly that.

I sit at work, which shuts down my glute med, which causes my tfl to over work, which pulls my I band into a tight hell.

That's my thoughts as well man. How could u say no!?

Yep, there ya go. Normally I'll be sitting in a desk in class or studying. And I sit at work up to 8 hours. It's just no good.

What did you say you were stretching that has helped it out

Basically everything on that side, there is a stretch that hits everything going into IT band and the muscles of the leg that run to the ankle so you don't have uneven tension on the knee, and it's supposed to relieve knee pain caused by that.

I found some of you homos on Instagram. My fishing and jeep pictures likely out number my lifting posts so be aware if you decide to follow back.

Fishing = cardio?

Walking back and forth to the buffet is considered cardio brother.. Haha. Nice fishes.

That's a good one! I should work on my cardio some more...

Thanks man! I did more "cardio" today. Then deadlifts!

Also for those following the jeep build. Got the welding on my axle done too.

So, I missed the gym last night because I got called in to work. Sherm, owner of the gym/ pa bench record holder/all around badass informed me that he hit 350x8 last night, so I had to measure up tonight. He has been the squat king in our gym. Egged me on, told me I had to catch him on another lift now, etc. Got me fired up good like he wanted to. I was squatting in my singlet for the first time. Got under the bar, had been focusing on form and good hip drive on my warmup sets. Absolutely crushed the first 7 reps. 8 was hard. 9 was a struggle and my hips shot up but got it pretty easy. I shut it down to leave some in the tank but believe I could have gotten 10. I was out of breath at that point. I had more in me so opted to hit 405. I think I got a little cold and rested too long between sets. Hit it for 2 reps, first was easy but I could tell I got iced out between sets on the first rep. almost racked it but decided to go for 2. On the way up mid way started to stall and had a big black spot pop up in my field of vision, covering about 1/8 the field in the circle in the lower left. Scared the hell out of me, thought I popped a vessel. Finished the rep up and racked it and sat there. Vision was fine after that, a little fuzzy for a moment but nothing else. Never had anything like that before.

Anyways, good workout, knee felt funky warming up but all good after that. Thats a 455 calculated squat max, and if I work on coming out of the hole that will go way up I believe. Once I eventually start training in knee wraps I think I will see a very nice squat number, but I want to stay training without them for a while more.

Overall I had a very good week and some intense workouts.

Thinking I am gona get some follidrone and run 2 bottles of it in the near future. Anyone have any input, suggestion, or stack ideas, throw them my way. Won't be for several more weeks. probably gona try and peak for my meets. Strongman is oct. 4th and PL is nov. 8th. I'm tossing around deadlift only or full meet because it's really expensive and I'm not sure how my shoulder will be at that time for the bench. I might look for another full meet to do this winter. Looking at some RPS meets.

Solid work. I am pretty sure I know the guys you train with and think they were at the last meet I did in Maryland. :o

Strong dudes.

crazy squats man. that kind of reppage on 350 takes a lot more than strength. then going for 405 after.. nice strong day there.

Thanks to all. Yeah that many reps is just insanity but sherm set the bar for me. I like the lower weights for now too for my knees sake. Today it felt pretty good though. Walked about 6 miles through streams woods etc and caught some more trout. You guys can just check Instagram for the pics. Lol!

Bolt, I bet you did, was it the raw united meet?

Thanks for all the positive encouragement guys, it really does mean a lot. I am finally getting my drive and desire back for lifting and have felt kind of lackluster the past 6 months to be honest.

Ya it was raw united. I think I've seen them at the last couple I've done there.
