Thanks bro!

Lol. Wait till tomorrow.

No, wait til right now lol.

By the way way you told me the other week came true. Buddy got me some baby powder and ammonia caps and told me to get some.

Congrats! Awesome job on the prs and awards!

Thanks toro!

This event was crazy. The size of some of these guys was insane. 3 guys from md were all insane. 240+. One guy was unreal. Opened up like 475/700. First meet.... Hahaha.

The bench numbers were insane. I actually had the 4th highest deadlift overall. Lots of cool people, guys helped each other out and had funny. Everyone hated the judge for long pauses and holds at top etc. my 325 pause was brief though so I can't say anything.

Awesome dude there. I'm assuming military. No legs... Only 1 prosthetic. Weight was 140-150. Benched 350. No more excuses.

Oh. These:

Fantastic, Big Country. Super impressive numbers.

I'm happy I finally got 6 plates per side.

Congrats man. Hope you are hooked now. :D

So, how are you going to start running Smolov and get your squat up to par with your big-ass bench and deadlift for this full power?

I don't know... that's what I have you guys for. Teach me. I feel like my squat is finally making progress and form is getting where it needs to be. I just need to kill it every day I train them. I've been training them properly for the shortest amount of time.

I think if you spend the next 3 weeks doing Smolov Jr. you could really hammer in the best squat form for you, give it a good boost, and then go back to training all three lifts in prep for Feb. 8 with a squat that's 30lbs or so bigger. If you had the time, I'd say give a full 13wk Smolov cycle a run and try to throw 100lbs on that sucker. Maybe after the meet, depending on if you like where your squat compares to your other lifts.

A full cycle would be pretty insane haha... It does look pretty mean... I think I mentioned doing something similar... squatting 3 times a week. I could bastardize the smolov and 5-3-1 advanced template somehow. Just take out 1 of the squat sessions and replace it w/ a lighter one. (probably the second workout do the squats just bump off some volume).

Interesting. Sounds like hell. Probably why it works. I'm gona give advanced template a run for a cycle, then think about doing smolov...

I have the smolov workout in front of me now... looks good.

Gotta go with Sean. Bastardization and hybrids always seem to be brought up by people with more brains and free time than muscle. I just thought crash coursing yourself in squat you could cheat a couple months of experience onto your belt and get your squat up to par.

Don't fall into the trap of changing everything though, dude. Stick with what works for you, you haven't failed or stopped progressing yet. Slight tweaks for the better, not wholesale changes.

Probably should do it how it's written but I am really enjoying my bench and deadlift gains right now... Why mess with a good things. Just gota get this squat moving.

You're right about the mixing of programs but it's basically just adding a ton of squat volume with 5-3-1. As long as I can recover I'd be okay. But... that would be the issue w/ smolov. I wana let 5-3-1 keep working for me and see if the squat is going up. I'm gona max attempt very soon to compare to last time and see whats up. I know my reps have gotten stronger... Form has improved. I don't wana sell it short. I do wana add in more squat volume like the advanced template shows. I like deads at 1x a week though.

Still, I'll consider smolov.

Did I mention deadlifting/ benching w/ a normal bar made such a huge freaking difference or at least felt like it.

Also still can't believe I paused 325 when I have never paused a max bench before LOL.

That's what we're saying. You can let the program as written work, but you're naturally a push/puller. Your bench and deadlift are only going to continue to push past your squat. We're saying put what you're good at on the shelf for 3 weeks, make your squat catch up and then go back to what's working for you. That's all. Squat and deadlift are your money exercises in raw powerlifting. Look at Chris Hickson and Pete Rubish. Those guys can't bench to save their lives and they total HUGE.

Very true brother... I believe I can be a big squatter though... maybe smolov can make that happen.

Big Country, go treat yourself to a decadent meal, a few drinks (or whatever your tonic) and some juicy tail. You deserve it. The bar will be waiting for you tomorrow.

Great work. Now celebrate a little.

I had McDs then got some food on campus. At work now.... I need to study for finals haha. And fix my jeep.

I got invite to like 3 "Events" tonight, lets call them. One by a random girl. Probably gona end up studying eating and sleeping all night, might go out late late tonight though for a little.

Also 585 @ 194 is official 3x BW. 550 @185 was like 2.97 lol. Now I gota shoot for 4.

Or better yet get 3 on squats first! And 2 on bench.

This is what I would like you to do: take a couple weeks, relax, get healthy and show us a plan on how you are going to get 700 in 2014.

You know we're here for you if you need advice.

I'm really proud of you brother...

Thanks. My plan is to do another year of 5-3-1 and some smolov and to bath in herders post-meet tears in order to reach my goals. Along with eating profuse amounts of McDonalds.

Oh and a might cycle of natadrol should net me around 50 pounds on all lifts.

But seriously, I'm gona train harder than hell, eat big and clean, gain quality mass, work on form, sleep well, and get more mobile, and keep sticking w/ 5-3-1. And maybe try this smolov thing.

Thanks man.

You guys definitely made a big difference in how I performed today. good call on the attempts by the way, you and herder were right on. Also, however you mentioned Iparatroop, too.

Dude, 115 pounds in a year is def doable. IMO, the smolovs are short term, the gains from them might be hard to hold on to long term. A smooth steady 531 I think would be a better choice.

You're entering the big leagues now, proper programming is how you're going to get there...

But herder said I squat like a ***** and need to improve! For my meet at least haha.

Go to the start of my log and look at my bench and dead numbers. Then today... In 9 months +85 dead and +25 bench. And I def had more in me today. I've also been training harder and smarter and most of the gains are mee recent from that.

Lol. Napalm's right, smolov is like a shot in the arm that can leave you. Let's take it easy, get to feeling good again and then crush this meet to see where you stand from there.

I just wana get strong, slow and steady. If I gain 50 pounds on my DL a year, 25 on bench, and 50 on squat, and 5-7 lbs lean body mass and don't get fat. I'll be a 23 year old, 220 pound junior lifter and go 600/425/775 in 4 years time. 1800. That's what I did this year. (plus some fat/water weight the last two weeks. And I actually increased dead 75, and still have 3 months to go). This is why I like 5-3-1. Slow progression, weights that work you but won't kill you, and simple hard work. Heck 5-3-1 calls for 120/60 pound gains a year. No way I'm moving that fast. I'll probably end up resetting my numbers once a year, but that's fine. And I know I have a lot of technical improvements to make, in addition to adding real, solid muscle mass. I look at myself and I'm small. I'm amazed how much weight I can move. I could be a lot bigger. So what's stopping me? I'll get there. Just gota put the work in, do my time, and be smart.

Congrats on some strong ass lifts.

So some of the interesting stuff from the meet. A guy named Ryan K...... (forget his last name) was lifting with me. I'm also Ryan K..... Anyways on the flights they had Ryan and Ryan K... They are pretty stupid. We were in different flights for bench but same for deads. I was up, but he thought he was up, and went up when I was chalking. Me and his one buddy (we were warming up together but didn't realize how far the name similarity really went) yelled at them to stop the lift because he was gona hit my 500lb opener and his was 575 (hes a 240). They didn't listen, he ripped my 500.... yeah. They let him take his opener at the end and stagger back one round.

When I got up to pull 575, I'm grabbing the bar to pull, and head judge tells the guys they racked the weight wrong.... We all stop. I look at it. looks fine. Oops, judge can't count... Had to get my head back into it then rip the 575. The video looks great, I'm waiting to get a good quality version and the version my GF has on her camera.

One guy ripped 700 off the floor but forgot the down command and lost it. made it look like 135. It was his first meet.

Looking forward to the vids...

So chest/arms never got sore. Back got sore/tight but I expected that... it usually does between arching for bench and pulling... but not that bad really. I'm sure a full meet w/ squat would add a bit, but I'm pretty happy w/ my recovery. Back to training tomorrow. I was thinking about doing 5-3-1 advanced but, the more I look at it the less I like the proportions of the extra lifts. 25 reps of 75% deads and 15 reps of 75% squats. (5x5/3x5). I'd rather do normal 5-3-1 and add 5x5, 3x5, and 5x1 of first set or something.

Also they didnt have the large shirt I pre ordered when I got there. Probably because I was late. Got an XL. Fits pretty good and haven't even washed/shrunk it yet. Except the giant sleeves. Guess I just gota grow. Shirts are pretty cool.

I hate how massive XL sleeves are. I'm getting close to outsizing myself on XL shirts, and I still haven't filled out the sleeves. They must have made XLs for the gargantuan curl bros of the world, 20 inch arms and no back to speak of.

While I'm on the topic that I brought up, ever notice that curl bros shrug every goddamn day, but never have any traps?

I don't expect to fill out the sleeves on my shirts for a good while (I wear XL as well)

I guess I always enjoyed my sleeves riding up over my arms when I wore mediums and larges. XLs are just excessive. And the sleeves are long as hell too.

XLs are only snug on my arms actually. Pretty baggy everywhere else . Some shirts tend to drape too far down to my thighs until I wash/ shrink em.

Good to seem I'm not the only one haha. XL sleeves are almost long enough to be long sleeve shirts for me hahaha. Definitely sized for obese people. I need medium sleeves on an XL torso to be "form fitting" and I'm talking t shirt not like, designer brand garbage shirts. I don't think I'll ever fill an XL sleeve. Even if I was big enough they are still too long. My elbows are gona be 20 inches lol.

I can't say I have any issues with baggy sleeves on the XLs or even XXLs. I have a few old death metal shirts from the early and mid 90s that are XL or XXL and have huge sleeves, though.

Thats cuz the toro beast has hyooge arms.

My biceps might finally be coming out of their year-long hibernation. It'd be so much better if we had a preacher bench in my gym. Ah, the little things I miss of a more commercial gym =p

Contry are you actually jumping back into regular training this week or are you taking a deload week? It would seem crazy to me to not take the deload, but different strokes, of course :)

Regular training. I took way too much time off before the meet. I don't even feel anything today. I do have the raging testosterone levels of a male bull in heat though. Nice thing about being young.

I'm doing nothing but studying today so gym is gona be a nice break from that, but gota be quickish too. Hammer down, low rest.

I am an old timer, and frankly can't recall how easily I recovered when I was your age. That said, don't underestimate the CNS impact of a meet. I would also encourage you to consider backing off for a few days, particularly if you have exams before you, so as to spare precious resources.

Given your performance, I don't know how you can say you took too much time off, but you know better than me. Seems like it was just right. And in any event, that was before the meet.

Anyhow, YMMV. And good luck on your exams.

I was just messing around. The session was tough and I dialed back intensity and volume. Plus my callous I ripped off was killing me on some lifts. CNS was def shot. My muscles felt good though as in not sore. That's all I meant.

Did my week 1 bench. But hit 3 instead of 5/AMRAP on last. I couldn't get warm anyways. Probably won't dead tomorrow or else will go really light.

Bench - warm up 210x5 245x5 275x3

BB row. 135x12;15,15.15

Tri cable push down overhand - 10x10,18,25

Basically did my main light and then some body building lol.

Weight 194.

Next week I will redo week 1 cycle 12 but actually do AmRAP or first set last or jokers etc like normal . Just use this week to recover.

Yeah, after my meet I was sore in the low back the next day, but I did like 100 reps of back raises and GHRs, as well as stretching during/after the meet and the day after, and I felt 100%. Then I unracked a super light 265 on the bench and ate shít, lol.

Haha I didn't even stretch too much after the meet. But yeah I just felt cold and weak today. That's why maximal training all the time isn't good. You can't continue it over time without recovery time built in.

Yup. Not a good feeling when u max out every time. But u did pretty good for today sesh man. Sucks u missed the reps tho but with some time too recover you'll smash them weights when u hit em next time around
