I don't do it that often, but you can just connect your video card output to your tv. On my laptop I use the S-video out, and just change the video settings. I believe there are a hundred different ways to do this though.

some tvs have DVI or HDMI and if your computer has either of these outputs you can hook up to the TV this way as well as via SVideo

Yep, uh huh. Tons of different ways. I'm sure there is something you can buy to do it wirelessly too.
