Coming off statins

So my Dad's just turned 60, he's been on statins for around 4/5 years now with high cholesterol. He wants to come off them against doctors orders, as we all want him to, however he's now in a position he feels if he comes off them his cholesterol will become worse.

I'm working on getting his lipid profile to have a better understanding of his condition. He's been taking a couple cloves garlic everyday, and recently I've suggest he has macadamia nuts and oil a couple times a day.

His main worry is can he come straight off statins or will he need to slowly come off? And any other advice of lowering his LDL? I know not all LDL is bad, so until obtaining his profile I'm assuming he has more small, dense particles.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Your father needs to find a physician who is willing to work with him in stopping statin use if that is what he wants to do. This is your father's health and life. Don't trust random strangers on the internet.
