Coconut Oils Benefits

It depends on what you call high, but he actually hit the nail on the head.

High, proper functioning LDL is not harmful, but high triglyceride dense LDL is. LDL p is a better predictor of heart disease than simply high cholesterol.

A lot of westerners have both elevated cholesterol and elevated dysfunctional cholesterol which seemingly paints the image of high cholesterol = bad, but it's also because their diets suck.

I agree though that coconut oil has a strange hype around it that is overblown in some circles.
Thanks man. Glad to know I'm sometimes right Haha

TBH I was curious what your stance was on this. I guess we know now.

Haha, it is good to see the research finally shifting toward subfractions of lipoproteins. Just to add to the links:

LDL particle size in response to blood triglyceride levels: Invalid Link Removed
LDL particle size being a better predictor of heart events than LDL-C:Invalid Link Removed

etc etc.

There are a few more that are like this that are good reads.

I think this is the thing right here. We see fats as good or bad and our definitions are actually groupings. As more research is dome, I think the groupings will be less important or at least change.

Which is actually one thing in coconut oil' s corner - the types of fats in coconut oil are pretty unique and found in few sources in nature. That in itself doesn't make it good or bad ...but if it is good it does explain some of the hype a little I guess.

Still, too much if a good thing isn't always great either.

One thing I love about the hype on other fats is less reliance on cheap oils like Palm :D

Have you heard much about Dr. Rhonda Patrick? I've been listening to some of her videos and reading her articles. I really like them, as she seems to be head of the curve when it comes to most modern medical research. Plus she's pretty good at making really complicated topics easy to understand. It was her videos that got me reading into LDL and cholesterol, and now I have read over 20 different research papers and a countless articles.

It really is amazing how behind the medical community is on certain areas. However, some areas in the medicine the research is well behind the practice. I'm actually really excited for the future medical practice for TBIs and brain degenerative diseases. Haha kind a went off topic sorry.

MCT Oil from coconut gives me a lot of energy and makes me not hungry. I take 2 tablespoons in my low carb shake in the morning. The cognitive mental clarity is undeniable as is the instant energy. MCT bypasses typical fat digestion and the liver converts it to ketones very efficiently. I'm going to see if it is impacting my cholesterol, I was under the impression it raised mostly HDL.
