Clear whey...any drawbacks

The Axe Man Cometh!!
Hey guys I've been using clear whey as my only supplemental protein, roughly 40g per day the rest is from whole food sources. The articles I could find says it is pretty much the same nutrition as whey isolate just much more filtered. Does anyone have experience with this or knowledge in general on clear whey? This stuff so far has been a lifesaver because I can no longer stomach other whey protein mixes. But if it's not good protein I'll go back to fully whole food sources. Thanks!

Been using it for years and swear by it. I drink it daily along with eating whole food. Protein synthesis never stops with this approach imo.

Plus it's nice on the stomach.

I only use milkshake style powders for desserts and bars now. I'll never drink it again.

^ I mimic this 100%. Whey protein for deserts, clear protein to drink

Good to know people have been using it for awhile with no issues. The shake style drinks do not sit well with me and sometimes did not sit with me for more than a few minutes. This stuff has been almost too good to be true and you know the saying about that.

Amino acids are amino acids tbh. The body will use them all the exact same.

40g is a great dose. Anytime I use a protein like whey etc I will take enough to hit that 2.5 - 3g of leucine content to get that mps spike out of it.

Are you sensitive to lactose? The likes of whey and casein can be rough on alot of people's stomachs.

I digest lactose ok but I still buy lactose free products. Just seem to sit alot better in my system ie the deadly protein farts.

Honestly I don't know. I hadn't consumed any animal protein for around 14 years. Added back in due to health issues. I tried a lot of whey and only clear whey I could keep down. So far really easy on the digestive system.

I just ran across this thread....
I wasn't sure of the best place to post this question....
I've been seeing "David" bars (protein bars) .....
Anyone try them yet?

I was wondering about perceived quality, taste, best flavors, etc?
Thanks!

I can't speak on clear whey, but there's some Beef isolates that mix up like a clear whey as opposed to the typical shake consistency. It's more like juice then a shake. Goes down very easy. Just make sure you're getting beef isolate or isolate with some collagen and not straight beef collagen protein

Yep, tried chocolate cookie dough, peanut butter, salted peanut, and blueberry pie.

Nothing “wow” about the flavors, has a fudge-like consistency with little balls like rice crispies that gave a nice crunch. Kept them in the freezer and just packed them in a bag for later. Enjoyed the blueberry pie the most (I’m a peanut butter guy).

I liked the macros, around 150 cals with 28g of protein, but wasn’t a fan of the artificial ingredients. I know you need that stuff to make a great tasting bar but for that I’d rather have it smothered in chocolate.

I’d recommend if you want to try something new, but nothing revolutionary IMO.

they're so outrageously expensive I have stayed away from them. I love protein bars but every single brand gives me god awful smelling farts so I don't buy them anymore

Have you tried ones that aren't made with sugar alcohol? Sugar alcohol doesn't get fully digested and sits in your gut fermenting, that's probably the issue.

Either way, real food is better then protein bars so your not missing anything. It's mostly a convince factor.

For some time, I was paranoid that companies were selling collagen protein and labeling it as "clear whey."
But I think these days it wouldn't make sense anymore. Collagen protein became so popular and trendy, that those companies would be better off just saying it's straight-up collagen
I do enjoy some clear whey, though. MyProtein lemonade is delicious, and so is Ghost's orange cream

What are some of the top brands for clear whey. I have tried myprotein, sometimes its so cheap makes me feel skeptical.

I use isopure brand... few ingredients, easily available, and fair on price. I use it for only 20-40 grams of protein per day so to me the price seems very reasonable

I feel like sometimes they taste a little

Rough but otherwise they rock!

1up has the best clear whey I’ve tried. Most I’ve tried foam up so bad and take forever to go down. 1up barely does this at all.
