cheap/ accurate scale recommendations???

looking for a cheap but accurate scale that can measure milligrams. I'm creating my own pre workout products and I'm also taking encapsulated products where I have to break open and take half the dose and don't have a scale that can measure that little of weight. should I just go on amazon and get a cheap one or any stores? maybe a jewelry scale or something? idk, I just don't wanna spend a crazy amount on a little scale, but want something effective. thanks!

I have this one: Invalid Link Removed
Seems to work just fine. My gram scale is an AWS too, and that one has lasted quite a while.
I will note that if you're weighing anything that's <15mg or so, you probably want something more accurate than this, but a microgram scale is not going to be cheap.

yeah I was gonna go down to 5mg. I guess I could put 20mg though and just remove 5mg if you think that would make it more accurate removing weight rather than adding???

For that, I'd probably want something like this: Invalid Link Removed (yes expensive, but not going to be able to do what you want effectively for cheap...this does 0.1mg accuracy, so won't do anything you need to dose in micrograms, but 5mg should be fine)
Or do volumetric dosing, which will be cheaper, but a little less convenient.

^^^ That's a good recommendation. It's always better to not go extremely cheap on a scale cause you want to be accurate and have it last awhile.

This is a great scale for the money and I would buy it regardless of whether it suits all of your needs. It is the one I use also, and I had one that LOOKED exactly the same for about 5 years and it broke and I bought this about 2 years ago and I can tell it's better quality and should last a while.

What are you weighing to 5 mg? When i started buying scales I thought that being able to measure the smallest amount possible was the way to go - but as I've gained experience I learned that a lot of times I can actually do better with scales that are less granular and weigh bigger amounts.

For instance, if I want to compound a couple ingredients and cap them in my 100 cap machine, it's easier to use a larger scale that goes to 0.1 grams to weigh out 100 caps worth of powder than to have to fill the cup on the scale above 4-5 times. It also means less movement of powder and thus less room for error - so it is even more accurate than the more sensitive scale, because it is one measurement instead of 4.

If you are weighing to 5 mg, you may be better off compounding it with something and capping it or using the volumetric approach above with either a scoop or liquid. Trust me, weighing out 5 mg with any scale isn't going to be easy. The amount of powder is small and just dealing with that will take time. Not something I would want to do every day. I'd rather weigh out 500 mg and dump it into 100 ml of water, or compound it with something and cap it.
